bobby b Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Anyone here get a chance to see Sound City? Some great Gibby acoustic moments. Awesome film/doc imo
Red 333 Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I saw it earlier in the year. A local cinema exhibited a 35mm print. Fascinating history of the facility and its users, and also a thoughtful meditation on how technology influences the creative process and the final product. Some great performances, too. I loved it. If you are into film, "Side by Side" explores many of the same themes, showing how the transition from photochemical film to digital imaging has influenced and changed how movies are made, which ones are made, and how they're exhibited. Highly recommended. Red 333

I teach students how to record and mix sound for film and TV. http://vfs.com/programs/sound-design/faculty/view/947 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1427982/ Cheers Btw ...... for those that are interested, I noticed that the entire film 'Sound City' is on youtube, but if ya get a chance to see it in a theater you should def go.

Cool, Rob. I think "Side by Side" is available on Netflix if you have it. That's is from where I streamed it. I saw that it was Amazon Video on Demand the other day. I hope you get a chance to check it out. I am playing with SpectraLayers software today, which UNMIXES already mixed audio, by differentiation the fundamental and harmonic frequencies of a sound among others in a mix, isolating them, and then layering them onto a new track so they can be brought up in a new mix, moved, used by themselves, or made out of phase so they cancel themselves out and can't be heard. In other words, say you were recording some location audio, and an ambulance went by with its siren blaring. Instead of ruining the take, the siren could be removed later. It's a great asset in documentary style work where there might never be a chance for another take. My how things have changed, huh? Red 333

Red 333 Thanks Red , i'll def have to give it a look.....once I get back home ...in Hawaii right now :) I'll check out SpectralLayers too. I'm primarily a Sfx mixer so I dont deal with production audio on my side of the console. I do however get involved in some audio restoration from time to time on various projects so that would be another great tool in the box , so to speak. Cheers
