What songs have you been reluctant to admit to liking?

In college, my taste in music was mainly hair metal (Tesla, Motley Crue, Skid Row) and punk (Dead Kennedys, Husker Du, Replacements). However, my favorite study CD was Air Supply's Greatest Hits...so I would say "All Out of Love". Another would be Elastica's "Connection"

The other night on the radio I heard Bette Midler and Barry Manilow do 'A Slow Boat To China'. Manilow? AAAARRGGHHH!

Reluctantly I must admit I enjoyed it, it was very well arranged and performed. I know I'm getting old.....

Fear ye not Mr j....

Barry 'n Bette are both hugely talented and passionate musicians

Bette particularly I can watch a whole concert of...fantastic singing and humour to boot... [thumbup]

Bette I have time for, always have - incredibly talented singer and actress. But Manilow, ok I know he is a good player but he made dreadful MOR schlock records in the 70s (though Dean Friedman "Lucky Stars" was worse, ugh) and I've always thought 'Slow Boat To China' a bit outdated and well, creepy....but I have to admit they did it so well I liked it - they brought out the best in the song and she is still right on the money.

Trivia fact; Manilow once asked Gil Evans to help him arrange and orchestrate an album. Evans declined due to pre-existing commitments. Source; Evans biography 'Castles Made Of Sound'.

Made for Lovin' You - Anastacia.

Knowing me, knowing you - ABBA... but it does have a slightly overdriven riff in the chorus! Actually, ABBA are brilliant, and Lemmy from Motorhead also likes them - fact! [thumbup]

I'm more than happy admitting to liking any of the music I do like.

I'm often percieved as being a bit odd anyhow so my liking 'unfashionable' music is never going to surprise anyone.

In the vinyl boxes, Abba sits next to AC/DC; Piaf to Pink Floyd; The Carpenters next to Cajun & Zydeco; Band of Gypsies next to Gypsy Kings; Glenn Miller next to ermm.. Frankie Miller....

It's all Good.

The most times eyebrows get raised chez nous is when I bring out the Mud and Slade albums....

P.

EDIT : or, more recently, when I dug out a 1964 33 1/3 RPM EP 'The Goons - Unchained Melodies' which was the original repository for the 'The Ying Tong Song'....

My guilty pleasure is ABBA's "Dancing Queen."

I also like the guitar work on Kelly Clarkson's "Since You were Gone."

I believe Phil X played on that Kelly Clarkson record... So there you go!

Slinks away in shame.

Not a rap fan by any strech (I ******* loathe and despise mass-produced rap and hip hop, real rap is just not my cup o' tea..), and I think Fred Durst is a ***, but there are a couple Limp Bizkit songs I kinda dig...

It's that groove, man....that groove...

Off the top of my head, these two stand out as being waaaaaay departed from my normal taste in music, but I like them. And I hate myself for it! msp_cursing.gif

strictly 'classic rock' speaking ... a few have to be noted as borderline cheese factor: (i kind of like it but i'm a little ashamed to hawhaw):

little river band LADY

ELO Don't Bring ME Down

anything from MEATLOAF

Sultans of Swing is a superior song (what happened to the rest of Dire Straits?)

Hold The Line TOTO

oh yeah, Stttt..yx,

I used to think Boston and Foreinger were cheesy when i was young but now i dig them. again it's like zztop and the cars would be cheesy if they weren't so darn tight, by tight i mean gooood!

there's more i'm sure, but these are some I've really got to consider dropping from my playlist. Cheese factor is kind of like when Gene Simmons does I was made for lovin' you or Rod Stewart does Do Ya' think I'm Sexy.

remember some friends caught me foot taping to Bad- Michael Jackson in my teens , was busted had to say i liked that song.

Michale Jackson's a BAD mo'fo'...no shame liking the King or Pop.

Althought 70's early 80s is his bestest stuff (solo).
