sumner77
Finally took the ebay plunge. Have been thinking about a banner gibson for some time. This seemed a relatively low cost / risk way to play. Definitely has issues, and miles, but a nice sunburst top. It is all mahogany, top back and sides, so I expect a different sound than the one I played at Mandolin Brothers a while back and fell for. sumner77
Thanks guys. I will report on her charms when she arrives in the next day or two. People say the all mahogany version is maybe better suited to finger picking, which is me. Hope so nid, btw, does yours have a truss rod? I'm told there is not much of a f.o.n. on this one, but the lack of a rod marks it as a '43.

Modac
Those banner LG2s usually are awesome. Nice find.
brians356
I thought hard about bidding on that guitar. You did ok on that one. I already have a nice post-war LG-3, would like an LG-2, too. But at least it's still "in the family." I have a Martin 000-15S (all mahogany, 12-fret, slotted peghead) that is a true fingerpick guitar, and also gets a nice growl when strumming. It is a very intimate guitar, and not going to stand out in a jam with more strident guitars, but very satisfying to play and hear played. I expect your mahogany LG-2 will be like that. rscott4079
It's beautiful. You seem to be gathering around you quite a lovely collection of vintage instruments - as I recall you purchased a Smeck not too long ago. I think that actually if you (speaking to the discussion board in general) are interested in buying vintage gear, now might not be a bad time to be looking. That's my view. Yes, and speaking of Stage Deluxes someone bought a "player" a few weeks ago that imo will yield a great musical instrument when healthy for around $2,500. That's value. I thought hard about bidding on that guitar. You did ok on that one. I think "ok" is about right; after all, when you 'win' on ebay you are the high bidder. A much cleaner, ca. 1950 spruce LG-2 went for about the same price a day later. I thought the banner was worth something, and I don't have an all mahogany guitar. Both these LG-2s would be listed much higher at dealers. ebay seems to be leading vintage prices lower.

Truth is, I've never investigated the year with the FON etc. My luthier assured me it is an authentic banner though. All I can say is, set up right, that guitar will roar--far beyond its size. It is like a great 000-18 GE or Authentic--but with Gibby Mojo and a large C shaped neck instead of the V.
sumner77
Have had this little gem for ten days or so. It is as I expected, a joy to play with a nice vintage all mahogany tone. Quite different from my other guitars. I quite like the neck, which is right about 1 3/4 at the nut. It came with a very cheap case, so I'm now looking for a quality used case for a '43 LG-2. In all, losing my ebay virginity hasn't been bad. Happy New Year to you all.
onewilyfool
Yeah....just love those "banner" gibbys. I wish Gibson would make an all hog small body guitar again....and throw in the banner for good measure....

jt
Welcome to the Banner Club! That's a gorgeous 'burst on that guitar. Don't wimp out on finding that FON! A flashlight, camera, and PhotoShop can work wonders. And, I hope that you'll make sure to email me pics so that I can add your beauty to Willi's and my Banner Registry Congratulations and thanks for sharing the pics with us.
