Gibson Hummingbird Pro Strap Button on Heel

Hey. So I just put a Hummingbird Pro on layaway (currently waiting for the last half of the money to pay it off. I'm curious about the results of installing a strap button to the heel of the guitar. I personally can't stand tying the strap to the neck as it causes the guitar to be positioned awkwardly. I've looked up other threads about this topic, but I wanted to know specifically about the Hummingbird Pro.

I'm not really concerned about devaluing the guitar at all, I'm just worried about messing it up in some way, whether it's the wood breaking, the hardware being damaged, or anything else. Hopin' somebody can give me their input.

Thanks so much!

Somewhere around here there is a great picture with numbers of a variety of strap button positions, and great discussion on the various positions. This from Stew-Mac. Alot of folks seem to endorse position 5 - as do I. Position 2 seems to tilt the guitar away from my comfortable playing position. Having said that, I rarely find myself using a strap.

I think that #3 would probably be my preference. My main concern is that I don't want to damage the guitar. I wasn't sure if maybe there was anything about the Hummingbird Pro that would make the modification unadvisable.

Hi,

I would not recommend position number 3 shown in the photo.... infact many would argue that position should not be even shown !!!!!

DO NOT put a strap pin here....

I would ask someone at the store to fit a strap button for you.. if they are stocking a Gibson Hummingbird pro..then they should do it no problem..and it will take them 2 minutes.

and ask them to put it in either the 2-4 or 5 position... 4 or 5 being the best in my opinion. You sound a little unsure about this..so maybe best let a tech do it for you. there is nothing with the HB pro that makes it any different from any other acoustic for this process.

( the only thing to bear in mind is any modification to the guitar can void your Gibson lifetime warranty )

Hope you love the guitar when you get it.

i agree. pos 3 should not even be shown,, there is nothing there other than the side of the body, it's going to just pull out and leave an unsightly hole where you don't want one.

pos. 5 I think is where that front pin should go.
