Coming up to a year old.

So, I've been using my J-45 solidly for gigs for just under a year, with that in mind I thought I would do a wee picture update thread. This is one of the much debated 'Lacey act' models, with the laminate bridge. It's also a black-nut J-45 model too.

Before the show & tell I should point out we've played a lot of gigs in the short space of time I've been using this as my main gigging guitar, a lot of rehearsals and a gig of some description most weeks for several months without a break. I should also add the other guitars I own that I don't really gig with are nowhere near as obviously used. I wouldn't say I'm overly hard on guitars either... anyway here we go, I'd like to dedicate this to the OCD cases out there msp_thumbup.gif

A wee moody action shot to finish off

Clearly I'll never be selling this on eBay as 'mint' or 'like it just rolled off the line' rolleyes.gif

Glad to see a guitar being used for what it's main purpose is. Have you noticed the guitar opening up a lot over the first year? Just curious because I just purchased a 2012 J-45 2 weeks ago. I also have the black nut and am not sure about bridge. It appears to be wood. Thanks, Jim.

Amen... like he said...nice to see its being used. They are made to be played. Never understood the "buy and hide under the bed" concept...speaking for myself. [thumbup] There has been an unconfirmed rumor going around town since the 70s, that there is a '53 Tele under someone's bed that was killed in a car crash in '53. Can't confirm or deny...however I doubt it seriously. Keep on pickin'.

PM, are you primarily flat-picking this guitar?

(Just trying to figure out what is actually creating the scratches.)

.

Ahh . . . the more rare base side banger (usually I see more wear on the treble side).

To me they indicate some big strokes for power. True?

Love the mojo.

Flatpicking, strumming, thumbpicking, all of it... down to the the rowdier moments at gigs I guess.

Asking myself the same thing, guitars not used at gigs are fine, J-50 is fine, but this bugger has taken a kicking, to be fair my singer has used it a time or two and he's an aggro strummer, but the main long scratch was me... It was a Kasabian tune one night.

Yeah but apparently only at gigs, as I say other guitars that have had equal overall time don't have this, the difference between them is this is the one I primarily use for gigging. I'm obviously giving it laldy when we're playing live.

Awesome thread! It would be cool to have another update in a year's time assuming that this stays your main gigging guitar to track the wear pattern on this guitar! Got any other dings or buckle rash starting on the back? I'm always curious when I look at the wear on certain guitars what type of playing it took to get them in that condition.

I'd say the apprpriate amount of mojo for one year!! Looking good...and you are right, on EBAY or CL this would be described in this way, "minty". "as new", "9.75 out of 10".......I feel, the more they get played....the better they sound!!!

In your own words pm it's a Tool. Don't matter man asking as your happy. My guitars are all in great shape but I wish they weren't if that makes sense lol. Maybe I'm not playing ebough

Imagine the shock n' horror the cocobolo and fancy rosette fraternity would have over at the AGF when they saw how 'disrespectfully' your J-45 has been treated PM ...

As I said mate, this one's dedicated to the OCD cases out there msp_laugh.gif

I've never been much of a believer in guitars you wouldn't gig with... what's the point really? However, the comparison between the Gibsons is quite evident, gigging does add a few extra layers of punishment... Again I wouldn't say I was overly hard on guitars, compared to some other players I've seen over the years but it just shows you...

In no way is this thread a complaint though, I rather like the way it looks, I'd be interested to see how the finish is holding up after 4-5 years. It had answered one question though, I always wondered where top-side wear came from, I could understand a thumb heel spot on some tops, but the likes of the Arron Lewis look etc.. where the hell and so on.... I guess now I know.

I'll get some pics of other guitars later to update the thread to show a comparison.

Oh Im a big 'players wear' mojo fan and love to look at my beat up LG-2 and wonder what stories she could tell. Although I did take a look at my HB TV which has been my main gigging guitar for the past year and have to say Im surprised how well she's holding up given the punishment Ive been giving her. Even the pickguard is going great guns, just lost a tiny bit of ink about a couple cm's in the main spot where the pick follows through during strumming.

She's a tough ol' Bird !
