aerohead Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I have enough guitars already , I can't pay the rent, my kids are hungry! Should I buy it since I don't have a J-45 yet?

ParlourMan Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Like the colour scheme. Not wild on gold rotomatics though. The Mr T. of tuners, chunky & gaudy.....
aerohead Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I pity da fool who don't like dem gold tuners! I pity him!! J.C. Thanks for the final and only deciding vote on my J-45 dilemma! ;)
duluthdan Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Agree with JC - nice sound. Like the overall appearance. Nice specs MV !
onewilyfool Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I'm not a big fan of Rotomatics on Gibson....but...very nice guitar!
Hairy Dave Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Stunning guitar. Love the burst and the fret markers.
Jalex Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Love the guitar but the tuners would have to go. And why is there a tusk saddle on such a fine instrument.
fortyearspickn Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Anyone have any thoughts on why they stopped using ebony for the fretboard & bridge a year ago?
Luckie Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Hello, My first post here. I have this guitar and it is wonderful. I wasn't all that pumped about the gold tuners but they have grown on me. My current Gibson lineup is : J-45 TV J-45 Custom Amber Burst Hummingbird 1969 J-50 1956 LG-1 I have other guitars but they don't see the light of day. Keith

Keith Welcome, Keith. Nice selection of Gibsons you have there. I'd be interested in your thoughts about your TV vs. the Custom, particularly the rosewood vs. the 'hog. I believe the Custom has a Sitka top, and the TV an adi top as well. You won't find a huge amount of love here (at least from me) for Rotomatics in any form, just because of their visual bulk and physical mass. You could have a nice, elegant set of Waverly's on the guitar, and it would be pretty sweet.

You could have a nice, elegant set of Waverly's on the guitar, and it would be pretty sweet. The custom has more of a bass growl and the TV seems to be more fluid across all the strings. I enjoy playing both and try to play them 2 to 3 times a week. I don't play any particular style on either one. I go through stages of fingerpicking to strumming and singing to picking scales. I'm always hesitant about modifying the original and wouldn't want to add any new holes. Keith

ParlourMan Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It doesn't, it's a different spec & body shape....
generaldreedle Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It doesn't, it's a different spec & body shape.... I should have clarified, how different is the sound between the two?
