frenchie1281734003
Great song OWF, such a shame about Amy. I have a thing at the moment about songs that are just four chords on a loop, and how good they can be. Here are another couple featuring Gibson Jumbo`s. Amy MacDonald. John Hiatt. j45nick
She was SOOOOOO good.....sigh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soO-cbNgUSo She was incredibly talented, but probably identified too closely with the singers she tried to emulate, singers whose lives were riddled with discrimination, heartbreak, addiction, and self-destructive abuse. Ultimately, it was a sad waste of a potentially great talent.
ParlourMan
I see it a wee bit differently, it's sad on an individual level of course, but, she's made the sacrifice and made herself an immortal poster child, saved herself the boring albums and the career decline. Lets be honest, she appeared, thrilled us with her voice, talent and personal recklessness, then died... if you're in the game to be remembered that's how to do it. I must admit to limited sympathy for junkies and sob story merchants though, we all have our troubles, we could all get maudlin after too much if we lets ourselves, shape up and work yer way out of a situation. Her dad's no slouch at coining in on the name though, but where was he when she was a sad little junkie who's follow-up record was having a hard time getting off the ground? Waste of a great talent but I've just no sympathy for junkies.
jedzep
P'man, in the world of stardom, you make a point. Better to burn out than to fade away? I guess so. When I think of the great Sly ( and the Family ) Stone, stumbling around homeless, and how the shine goes off the great songwriters/performers when they stay at the party too long ( Bowie, McCartney, Dylan ). I wonder if Hendrix would be playing bar mitzvahs if he were around today. God, what a thought!
telemaster03
I read somewhere that highly creative people often are troubled by forms of mental illness, depression, anxiety and other disorders. History bears this - Hemingway had depression and killed himself, Townes Van Zandt with depression and alcoholism, Hank Williams and even F. Scott Fitzgerald. the list goes in and on. I wasn't a huge Amy Winehouse fan, but I appreciate her talent. This clip was very enjoyable, thanks for posting it.
