bluesguitar65
Dunno, but it seems Mayer is out of his league here. Also, watch 4.58 in the video. Getting a compliment like that from the Great BB. King tells you something about Derek Trucks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS0NHlWgi5w
surfpup
Derek Trucks is a beast. Not only does he have the slide licks in spades, but he has so much control that at times it doesn't sound even like slide (first solo for example). Beast!
rct
John Meyer looks out of place anytime there are other guitar players around him. rct
rocketman
Wow that was unbelievable. BB King is the ultimate in class. A lot of players, not just guitarists, can learn a lot from him.
Rabs
When I saw BB King a few years back he also had Derek and Susan with him and we also had a slightly out of place guest... Mick Hucknel? Also Derek does a screamer in this vid (about 3:00) (Ronnie was also impressed with him)

Yes, his slide techinque is what seperate Derek Trucks from the rest. His approach and style on the use of the slide is very different, if not innovative. I have yet to see someone that played slide with so much control and speed, as if the slide was an extra finger. Simply amazing.

moparguy
I was lucky enough to see B.B. King in 98 with Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, and The Allman Bros. King was awesome, Allman Bros played last and absolutley brought the house down, I wasnt expecting that, probably THE BEST LINE UP Ive ever seen. 69tele
I quite like Mayers work with his trio actually. Also seen BB King a few years ago legend ! http://www.gear-review.co.uk/reviews/bbking/index.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OxE1p_YKOI
Izzy
I quite like Mayers work with his trio actually. Wow, just them three sound great. I like Mayer as a pop fan. I heard his version of Voodoo Child and wasn't blown like I was when SRV did his version. Then again, it is SRV >.> What I do love is his confidence and his voice. He is a performer and with a voice that reminds me of Huey Lewis's...oh, yeah...he's got a complete package. Does he belong in leage with Tedeschi (thanks for the intro to an awesome SG slide guy)? I ono man, that guy has disturbingly awesome chops...not easy to digest all that awesome in one sitting. I went searching for his band and his wife has pipes, great music...not as easy to take as Mayer's. Mayers = sway and rock out Tedeschi = stand and stare and listen intently and try not to wet yourself.
badbluesplayer
I noticed something very telling about the guitarists. Who can play the chords for "Someone" without thinking about it? Wow.

King was awesome but the Allman Bros kicked everyones a$$. The only other concert that compares to it was Robert Plant 29 palms tour. I think its a tie for best concert. The loudest by far was Molly Hatchet, holy crap, they started off with Devils Canyon, it starts with thunder and lightening sound and my clothes were shaking on my body, never been to one that loud, but it sounded kick a$$, they are awesome live also, would go see them anyday over Lynerd Skynerd

The lights down and the fog machine going was pretty dang goose bumpy, and then Hatchet gently starts laying into Dreams, the way they did it, but there's a giant Hammond/Leslie going on and when the lights are up it's Gregg singing his song with Hatchet. I will not ever forget that. Later, the Jessica the Allmans did absolutely brought down the entire Philly Spectrum. That was the recently departed Toler and Goldflies Allmans. Dickie was completely on fire that night. All these decades later I had quite a few emails with The Rooker, Dave Goldflies. Good times. rct
surfpup
Saw Molly Hatchett shortly after the first album came out. (Jacksonville is just up the road ya know). They were still in medium rooms at the time - It was a 500 seater maybe. It was very loud - damn Peavey's. But it was good. Three lead players taking solos all night.
