SteamyRay
Hi, I would like to install locking tuners on my Derek Trucks signature (which is essentially a 61 Reissue with that little decorative thingamabob on the bottom). I've installed locking tuners on other guitars before with great success, but I'm concerned about the weight balance on the sg. I don't want the guitar to become top heavy. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best/lightest weight locking tuners? (p.s. I think the decorative thingamabob on the bottom will help with the weight ratio a little bit). DiamondJig
I like the planet waves auto trim ones, they are light and work great.
SteamyRay
I like the planet waves auto trim ones, they are light and work great. Thanks for the input. Are they direct replacement? I forgot to mention that I am looking for that as well.
DiamondJig
Yes they drop right in, I have them on a few of my SG's. They only have one screw hole on the bottom.
oldtimer
Have you checked out the Stienberger's?, they are not locking, But they are lightweight and they do stay in tune. I bought a set for my Firebird.
CoreyT
I have the Autotrims on my 2012 Reissue, they were not a direct drop in. Shop plugged stock holes and drilled one new one.
DiamondJig
The original ones use 2 screws on top and on bottom, the bottom hole lines up with the new tuner, the top hole is not used and your guys filled it, I just put the old screw back in. The tunes do drop in, there is no reem'n of the tuner hole. How do you like the way they work ?
badbluesplayer
Kluson makes some locking tuners. I'm not sure if they're a drop-in replacement. Probably. They have the plastic knobs like the stock ones.

I guess they could have just put a screw in the top hole, but I thought they had to redrill the bottom one too. I like these tuners very much, and I have them on all of my PRS SE guitars now, and my little Fernandes guitar seen in the link below. Makes changing strings really easy, no clipping :D
guitarzan13
I use the Gotoh Kluson style and I Love them!! Direct drop in for vintage, but you would need adapter bushings for the modern 10mm holes.
