Hello DanvillRob!

The central monument has the coat-of-the-arms of the Soviet Union engraved on it. In Hungary, - just as in most of the European countries - it is fobidden to publicly use/wear/show symbols of totalitarian regimes (such as swastika and red star).

Cheers... Bence

Isn't the coat-of-arms still displayed on the monument?

Thanks for the information.

Yes. This parcel is under the authority of the Embassy of the Russian Federation. Noone has the right to do anything inside without the permission of the Embassy. Of course, we keep it clean - according to an agreement between the states.

The idea was to change the concrete headstones to russian orhtodox crosses, and to replace the monument with another that would not hurt the feelings of neither of the nations.

Cheers... Bence

Wow! Bence, those are great photos of some very interesting headstones and shots of the cemetery! Your history account of each made them even more so interesting. The photos really give us a good look into your lovely historic town. It's amazing what you can learn from cemeteries isn't it? A great way to teach history! Thank you so much for sharing them with us all!
