Hi there, I'm looking for some help finding the value of my Gibson acoustic, any help would be greatly appreciated as I want to sell it and can't find any for sale and very limited info on the guitar, here's what I know;

Sitka spruce flat top

Mahogany back and sides

Scalloped bracing

Black teardrop pick guard

Dovetail neck joint

Unbound rosewood fingerboard

Dot inlays

Silkscreen logo

Non gloss walnut finish (I've never seen non gloss anywhere always later gloss version)

So that's about all I know really and that the non gloss version was only made in 1998.

Hope you can help! Thanks, Ant.

I have seen them go on ebay as low as $730 and I saw an international sale once go for almost $1200 (and it had a broken headstock). I am on my second one. I kicked myself daily for selling my first one, and thought I would never find another one. They are getting really hard to find, so don't sell yourself short.

Thanks for the reply! although I hope that is pounds and not dollars! :-)

My guess is about $900 - $1150

Watch this auction - and the likely re-listing -

It's not exactly the same - but close enough for ballpark pricing purposes

It is quite sentimental to me but I have my eye on a J-45 Custom, so the decision is whether to...stick with the quite rare cheaper one that plays amazing or go for the expensive one that is in abundance that also plays amazing!! Mmm!

If I recall that guitar only retailed for around $1100. While they are not all that common there is also nothing about them that is collectible. I would say value would be in the $800 range. Anything higher would require quite a bit of lick.

Yes it's definitely not a seller's market right now. Expect to get less than you hoped for it if you do decide to sell. Best of luck though.

The answer to that is probably both. You're only getting replies from our American brethren here, so I'll weigh in for the UK.

On our side of the pond it is a rare guitar - it's not like every guitarist has a Gibson in the first place, but you're far more likely to find a J45. Within the WM series, I suspect you'll find more 45s as well. The 00 is not a mass-appeal model either, though, since it's really a fingerpicker/blues specialist (even if it strums up nicely - as I'm sure it does). If you go too high on the rarity factor, people will counter that they can get a new Blues King, L00 or L1 Robert Johnson for the same price. Or they'll just plump for a nice J45. Still, as everything made in the USA seems to be subject to a £1:$1 exchange rate when transferred to the UK, you can probably get as many pounds for the guitar as our American friends would get dollars.

Have you actually got your ears on the J45 Custom as well as your eye? I know I'd keep the WM00, as I like mahogany and mainly fingerpick, and don't really hear the resonance that a rosewood J45 undoubtedly has. But I wouldn't swap my SJ for a small body either. I'd love to be able to take the 00 off your hands as a second guitar, but I don't have the readies. Still, if you really do want to sell, you'll quite possibly find a buyer at £800 or even more if it's in good condition. Any Gibson under 1000 quid looks interesting to punters in the UK. The WM00 is in the category of high quality guitars that you can get relatively inexpensively, though, I think. Nice model - is it really only nostalgia and 'rarity cool' that make you want to keep it?
