Two Gibsons - Value vs. Cost

Last night I found two beautiful Gibson guitars for sale by the widow of the original buyer. One is a 2007 Gibson J-50 with the factory pickup and the other is a 2006 Gibson Songwriter Deluxe (no pickup). They are just like new and have been kept in the cases as apparently the purchaser passed away not too many years after he bought the guitars new. This lady is asking $1300 each and I do not believe she would budge on the price nor would I want her to because I still have a few morals left. What is your opinion on what she is asking. They are such nice guitars. Thanks.

I have stepped up the game and am doing acoustic gigging with my wife on vocals. Right now I play an Epiphone Dove which is a good looking guitar and has a great tone for an Asian made, but that J50 blew the Dove out of the water.

Hey Corey, I really like the part about your morals. Really cool ! 1st because your looking at Gibson guitars..you can't go wrong. Price seems fair but you have to feel it, hold it, play it. treat it like a woman and then you'll know......Justin

Corey,

The J 50. It's a really good deal. Look at what similar J 45s go for used. The 50 is a natural topped 45.

I'm prejudiced--I play a J 50. You gig--the electronics are a plus.

Yes, the SW is a good guitar. But the 50 is the guitar for you.

Good man for your morals. Compassion is an all too rare quality in this day and age. She is asking very fair prices for those guitars. As others have said, the J 50 is probably the better value and will more than likely appreciate in value more than the SW over the years. Remember, they are made to be played, so buy the one tha you will enjoy playing more. Congrats.

I still say a fair offer has nothing to do with morals or morality! To illustrate: Lets say that Corey cannot afford $1300 and walks away, unbeknownst to him the bereaved could have been hoping for at least $1200 dollars to help tie some loose ends, now she has no buyer. Neither party has benefitted. With all due respect, the dearly departed will be no more so because of a legitimate offer. If she has an emotional attachment (and I could certainly understand) then it will have little to do with price.

I would ger the J-50 in a heartbeat...good and fair price.....Those songwriters, I've seen as low as $1100, but I would only get a songwriter if it had a regular bridge, I just don't like that mustache bridge....just me...Probably a good guitar.....Get the J-50!!

The J-50 is the one I am going to get as soon as I can find a buyer for one of my kidneys. I asked the lady a couple times if that was her final price without being too pushy and she indicated it is.

I understand what you are saying. My comment was not that you should try beating her down on the price. I was merely pointing out that I did not find it "immoral" to do so. $1300 is a very fair price for a J50 in great shape. Hope you are able to get it.
