Old Rocker 59 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Guitar Center along with their affiliates, Musician's Friend and Music 123 , are offering these Les Paul Specials for $599.99. They have 2 humbuckers and 1 Volume along with 2 Tone controls with a wraparound tailpiece . They come in 2 colors ,Vintageburst and Cherry . They're not on Gibson's website as far as the products section is concerned, so I would like to know if anybody has tried out any of these and what they think of them. Right now, I play a Epi Goth LP Studio and am somewhat on a low budget, so seeing that I will be getting my 1st Gibson very soon, that is what is within my budget .
Aymara Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 They're not on Gibson's website ... Mmh, then I myself would have a closer look at the Gibson Les Paul Junior in Satin Cherry for 50 bucks more or one of the higher end Epiphones. I have an Epiphone 1960 Tribute with stock Gibson 57 Classic pickups, which is very nice with a pro setup.
cjsinla Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Have not seen one but it seems to be built like a Les Paul Junior as it has no maple top. Like a junior, it has no tune-a-matic bridge and you may have some trouble with intonation. Has the slimmer neck and high output ceramic hum buckers so it won't sound like a junior, but it may be a little easier to play due to the slimmer neck and the tummy cut. I would not get it personally but you might like it if you play really hard rock and don't do a lot of chording way up high on the neck.
moparguy Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 The last time I looked, a Les Paul Studio was 699.00 at Guitar Center, I would save and get a Studio. They also have 18 month no intrest financing on a Guitar Center credit card, I dont know if there is a minimum purchase amount or not, Im pretty sure a studio would qualify , thats how I got my L.P
moparguy Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 oops, i dont see the guitar for that price anymore, could have been a closeout model that was just for the store here, they do have the financing still
Aymara Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Moparguy is right ... a Studio would be a much better choice than a LPJ or this Special, so wait a little longer and invest a bit more.
moparguy Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 If you do the financing thing, figure out how much you can pay a month and get what you want, dont just settle because you wont be happy with it.My next guitar is gonna be a American Stratocaster, just gotta pay the Les Paul off first. Im sure they will run a special on them, maybe a hss hwy one
Aymara Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I think, it's also worth to check the higher end Epiphones. My Epiphone 1960 Tribute has Gibson 57 Classic pickups and just needed a Tonepros bridge and a professional setup and beats every low end Gibson in my opinion ... it's not as good as my Gibson Les Paul Signature T, but I prefer it over every LP Junior and most Studios, because it sounds good, has great playability and looks much better ;-)

Both in sunburst. Was on other business so didn't notice about the Gibson's tailpiece or if it had an adjustable bridge. Happen to love the LP Jr style guitar. Interesting looking guitar!! Glenn
CapnDan Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I just got one for my college graduation last week and I've got to say I really love mine. It's my first Gibson (been playing an Ibanez GAX70 for 8 years) so I'm still excited about owning a piece of legendary equipment. One strange thing about it is that it doesn't have the Les Paul insignia on the head stock like it does on the pictured ones on GC's and Musiciansfriend websites. I was going to ask at Guitar Center about that. I definitely want another Les Paul in the future, probably a Classic. I would say that this Gibson would be good for beginners and intermediates but I can definitely recommend it!
Aymara Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 It's my first Gibson ... Then we have something in common ... our first Gibson Les Paul ... enjoy! I myself will never play a different guitar, except acoustics ... LP rocks
kaicho8888 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 It's always nice to have a new guitar; but consider a used one that is fairly new and mint... you get a lot more for your money.
