Nice guitar. I have one as well. There were only 37 made. Great to see they are getting around the world.

Did you have any trouble getting it across international boarders? The Brazilian Rosewood thing is quite complicated. I would be worried about sending mine across any boarder as I really don't know if it could me confiscated or not. I'd hate to lose it.I did get a copy of Gibson's CITIES agreement and hope that will be sufficient to comply with the new regulations.

15 years ago Ray's grandson Scott Wartenberg came to Montana to visit the Gibson plant. He came over to my house to play my guitar along with Eldon Whitford. Eldon came to Bozeman to introduce Scott to the Gibson management. The next day Scott went to the plant and played "Back In The Saddle Again" for the folks and the general manager was so grateful he gave Scott a Western Classic. They didn't have a Ray Whitley to give him. They only made 37. 1937 was the year that they made the original. Scott was a piolt for an airline and he played guitar professionaly as well.

I knew where there were others as well but time has sort of taken care of that.Maybe we can start a club. I'll be the treasurer. If anyone wants to play mine they can come to the "Gibson Homecoming".

Yes, Brazilian Rosewood. Pattern is very similar to that of my old, old Heritage. Be careful with it. Brazilian Rosewood is Cites, Appendix 1, thanks mainly to the French love of making perfume out of the pulp.

Thanks guys for your kind comments.

Yes I realize that BRW is a tricky wood to export being listed in CITES appendix 1 and all but the seller was kind enough to not disclose this info when he shipped the guitar.

Beautiful guitar. That ToneRite'll get that big old top to loosen up a bit and then I imagine that thing will just rip. Glad there are still some gamblers left in the world. You're a lucky man in all kinds of ways. Anyone know where the original is at this time?

The Whitley family has it on loan to the Country Music Hall Of Fame in Nashville. Ren got to take it out and spec it out for the new build.
