blues
Hi guys, I used to have a 62 ri sg that came out in the 80s.I got mine when they first came out. The adds had a picture of Angus holding one. I traded it away and I miss it. I have a question if anyone can help. The original pickups were shaws. I remember they had the little paf stickers on the pickup rings. I saw one for sale that has Bill Lawrence pickups made for gibson. The seller says they are the original pickups. Does anyone know if they were changed from the Shaws and if so when? Also Ive heard they first came out in 1986,but I think that I got mine before 86. Maybe my memory is bad. I know the case was the old plastic chainsaw style. I know the case was the old plastic chainsaw style. I have an '82 les Paul 30th anniversary and '84 Heritage V that came with Shaws I have two guitars from '79 that did not. I believe Gibson started by putting them first in the Heritage series in the early 1980s. I did have an SG from the late 70s or early 80s. That guitar came with the epoxy sealed pickups. Is that what you meant by the Bill Lawrence pick ups? Or are you referring to the ones with the circuit boards? BTW, my SG was a standard.
cjsinla
BTW, this is a post that I copied from the SG forum. A guy was posting about his 86 '62 reissue My neck profile looks like it's about the same as yours, it's .789" @ 1st and .872" @ 12th. Mine has the Tim Shaw PAFs. The SG-62 had the Bill Lawrence pickups from '88-'89 I think. Sometime in the '90s, the necks on the renamed model ('61 reissue) got a little wider. I don't know which year exactly, but do I know it was done by 1997, because I used to have a '97 '61 reissue. The recent ones are also wider, because I briefly had a 2011 '61 reissue and it was about 3/64" wider up the whole board.
blues
I also had the 30th anniversery. A 59 flame top reissue I think it was an 83 with shaws. one of the few guitars I regeret selling along woth the 62 reissue sg.
cjsinla
I didn't fully appreciate the pick ups when I bought the guitars. But in comparison to some of the stuff I bought recently, they sound great. They sound different than the 57's and the T tops.

I could never find a les paul that I liked as much as the flame top 59 reissue.
