Aster1
Hi Guys, I've never owned a pair of Converse low top all stars (a-la Chuck Taylors) and have 2 prs. of recent made Pro-Keds low tops. Anyone that have had either, or better yet both, what's your opinion for fit & finish as well as longevity? The Chucks do have a nice orange that would look good with my blue jeans & Harley hats I tend to wear for leisure in the summer!! Stupid question, but hey, where else but a guitar forum will I get a large pool of people that wear these cool & comfortable tennies vs. the huge, hot leather robut stopping clod hoppers tennis shoes? surfpup
I like Chucks, but they don't fit me right. They are very flat and I can barely lace them over my super high instep/arch. Don't know if Pro Keds fit any differently.
retrosurfer1959
Converse all stars Ive worn mostly black high top ones for the last 45 years or so. There hard to beat light and comfortable if you don't need huge arch support . I have dozen of custom ones eve the black leather model like will smith wore in I robot. I typically wear either Doc Martins if it cold or Chucks all summer and haven't even owned dress shoes since i retired 3 years ago and put away all my suits. buliwyf
I have a pair of above the ankle high Converse Chuck Taylors from the mid 80's.They are bright orange with a bright yellow insides so if you fold them down you get two colors .I think I wore them twice onstage, usually I wore red lizard or gray/greenish python cowboy style boots. Twiz
I was a very loyal fan of Chuck Taylors until around the late 90's when they started making them in China. I have 1 red pair now and they just aren't the same. The only similarity that I can think of between the USA and China All-Stars is they run about a 1/2 size big. I've never had Pro-Keds, so I can't really comment on those. My current favorite canvas shoes are slip on Vans. Also, no longer made in the USA. Riffster
I have a few chucks, two are low toplaceless and those I use the most, also have a mid-top pair. Also have a pair of Vans. I use footshoxs insoles, no way I would wear this type of shoes without insoles.
Searcy
I think I have about 12 pair of chucks.
PingPongBob
I've always been partial to Converse Jack Purcells. My dad wore them. I still wear them. Gotta love the smile on the toes.
brundaddy
The Ramones wore Keds only, because they were made in the USA and Converse weren't. I'd be surprised if Keds are still made in the USA, though.
badbluesplayer
Cons were cooler than Keds. But that was all about basketball. Now nothing's cool, and Cons don't fit anymore.
