Aaron Hebert
I have acquired my grandfathers old Gibson guitar. I am unsure of the model and cannot find a serial number to identify anything. I was told that it has to be at least 50-60 years old. I am just looking to acquire more information on it. It has natural wear and tear from its old age. I was wondering if I sent it to get refurbished if it would lose its value. Any thoughts?
cjsinla
I wouldn't touch it with the exception of a light cleaning. Did you post this on the "Instrument ID and Information" thread? That guitar might be a Gibson ES 125, try Googling that and you'll see.
RevDavidLee
First off - that's AWESOME! It does look like an ES 125 to me too. And I agree with the other poster - do not have it refurbished whatsoever. As stated - just a thorough but light cleaning. That guitar has all the mojo in the world and the fact it was your Grandfather's is pure cool. I say keep it original. Enjoy!!!!! Jock68
I would try and get it valued and then make the decision, sell or keep. Me .. I would sell, too scared or damaging such an old instrument. I am sure that whatever choice makes you happy will please your grandfather.
