charlie brown
Hi All, Just saw something, on AOL news (A video clip) of some newlywed chick, complaining about "issues" (in bed) with her new husband, and how..after she'd taken a vow of celibacy, until marriage, she was disappointed in some of the aspects, of his intimacy, and techniques, blah, blah, blah!! What IS IT, that compells people, these days, to talk about this on National TV, in the first place. Why not deal with it, amongst themselves, and/or with professionals, trained to actually help them, and leave the rest of us, out of it! WE don't want to know...(AKA TMI), or at least "I" don't want to know! To me, it's just another indication, of how insecure, shallow, and narcissistic society has become. Is it really necessary, or even "helpful," to themselves, much less other's, to air their "laundry" in public! I guess I'm "Old Fashioned" (Thank You, Lord) as I just don't get it, or need/want to! (End of Rant) CB
milod
CB... It's just the modern version of daytime radio soaps that turned into nighttime soaps that turned into... <grin> I tease and suggest at times that Jane Austin started it. But the movie mags of the '20s and '30s, then radio soaps and sobstory movies... it was basically the same stuff. Are you old enough to remember the "Queen for a Day" radio and then TV show? It was kinda a one-off daily equivalent with these ladies telling their tales of woe in hopes of "winning" $50 and maybe a washing machine? m

And, I'm not picking on the women, here...ANYONE that feels the need to do that, is "questionable" to me. Maybe I was just raised far more conservatively than I realized, at the time? I love discussions, and good conversations, but about "real" issues, not vanity crap ! LOL (Sorry, this stuff just really "bugs" me!) But, I'm sure I probably give TMI, too...in some of my postings. But, they are only to "background," some of my points of view, mostly. NOT, to air my dirty laundry! And, they're not on YouTube, or National/International TV. LOL CB
milod
CB... Yeah... I pretty much agree with you, especially on the point of "shallow." But unfortunately regardless of economic status or "gender," I think a lotta folks actually feel that they live shallow lives, whether they do, or need to, or not. So... they get into some of the crap you're talking about. One thing about picking, or playing music in general, is that it ain't shallow even if you're doing the simplest of music with and perhaps for other folks. Of course, I'm prejudiced. <grin> m
moparguy
Sometimes I think these people are paid actors that are doing these shows. I have a hard time believing that they can come up with all this " TRAILER TRASH DRAMA ' and have it all be real. I just keep changing the channel
charlie brown
Well, if this is any indication, of the level of self-absorbed, vanity, narcissistic nonsense, that's become "commonplace," these days... We're in Serious Trouble! IMHO, as always. Forgive me, if I'm being "judgmental?" I'm in one of my "moods!" LOL Like, "enough is enough," already! milod
CB... Pardon my cynicism, but I think when it comes to narcissism and shallowness... I think our era is no worse than those prior to our lifespans, and no worse than I've seen in mine. There just is a higher population and more room for material that panders to those who fit the profile. m

And, is this a product of what people really "want," or what's pushed on them? My "Rant" is less philosophical, and more ("fed up") emotional, I guess. Thunderchild
CB, the short answer is MONEY! There is nothing real about these shows. They are all contrived and fixed to bring big bucks to some studio exec. The first reality show I ever saw {quite by accident} was the first "Survivor". It was on in a hospital room in 2001, while I was visiting my father who was dying of cancer. I saw that and wondered how they could call that reality, when a terrible diease was eating my father alive. What we were going thru was reality. Society has gotten mindless & lazy. They sit in front of the tube or computer waiting for the next "Big" thing, be it twitter, facebook, duck dyanasty, or some other assorted BS. Can't stand any of it, except wrestling, I know it's real Agree 100% with you & Milo and everyone else . Blood pressure is going up so I will end my rant now TC

charlie brown
Yeah, I'm "Cynical" (though, still somewhat optimistic, inspite of it), too! I realize there's an age difference, BUT...I can't imagine anyone really buying into, or even "enjoying" this Crap, that poses as "entertainment," these days! I like to think (anyway), that people are better than that, overall. But, you'd never know it, by what's blasting out, at us , on the BOOB tube/Idiot Box!! STEVIL
Loads of the stuff on UK TV, can't be bothered much with the TV anyway unless I'm watching a movie or something. To me reality TV smacks at cheap programming - they don't have to pay actors, and they will always get some loon who will expose their talking puppet penis on live TV to a throng of millions that tune in. Dreadful tackiness that is foisted off as entertainment these days. <_<

Rabs
Well im not that old but I have to wonder when I see reality TV shows advertised like The Littlest Bride where they take a bunch of midgets and vertically challenged people and have a dating show where there was one guy and like ten brides to be... And theyd do stuff like at some point introduce a full sized person just to add to the mix and see how everyone reacts.. I mean its just wrong lol.. And whats the others.. Dating in the Dark, which is what it sounds like.. Two people in a darkened room trying to decided if they fancy each other.. I mean what the hell sort of TV is that, two people sitting in the dark.. Its just as Andy Warhole said, in the future everyone will have 15 minutes of fame.. Its just a shame its all so soulless and ridiculous... But as also said. All this is just modern freak shows which the public have always been drawn too.. Like back in the day youd have a circus with a bearded lady, dead things in jars, conjoined twins etc etc.. All this reality TV is just a modern day version of that.

I mean people actually go on a TV show and expose their embarrassing illnesses, such prolapses, scabies, erectile disfunctions, and on, and on... Now that is taking the Warholian ethos of 15 minutes to an all time ultimate low.
