swankybonsai
Hey there, I joined the forum today after buying my first Gibson. I was hoping someone could answer a few questions I have on my new (secondhand) guitar. I bought a 2004 Sheryl Crow Signature Acoustic guitar today in great condition here in the UK. There is no obvious damage to it and it seems to have been living in its case for the last few years or so. I noticed that the label inside the guitar is signed by Sheryl Crow in what appears to be blue biro. The label itself is white/cream, differing to the orange label I have read people referring to in regards to signature models. There is a pick up fitted however the guitar has no volume or tone controls that I can see of. Can anyone let me know a bit more about this model I have bought ( collecting next week ! ) For example, is that actually her signature inside or a copy and what pick up do i have fitted to it ? I have checked the serial number and the guitar was produced on 24/5/04 at the Bozeman plant. Thanks in advance !
modoc_333
Congratulations and welcome! That is actually her signature and if factory it should have a fish man pickup

DanvillRob
CONGRATZ! Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition Sheryl Crow is one of the finest performing artists of the past 20 years. Like all musicians, Crow has been searching for the most expressive sound in both the studio and on stage. Gibson Acoustic is proud to introduce the new Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition, the most expressive Southern Jumbo in Gibson Acoustic’s history. The new features on this SJ combined with its distinct onboard pickup, the Trance Audio Amulet, allow Gibson to deliver an unblemished natural acoustic sound that has eluded performing artists for decades. Every note is amplified without artificial tone coloration and with the high-end intact, allowing for an uncompromised unity between the instrument and the musician. Crow’s new SJ Special Edition raises the bar for fine acoustic guitar performance with its superior dynamic and tonal range coupled with immaculate sound reproduction from an extraordinary internal body pickup system. This new Sheryl Crow model reflects Gibson’s continued commitment to advance guitar design and performance through collaboration with some of music’s greatest talents. The guitar, handcrafted by Gibson Acoustic in Bozeman, Montana, is built with a top made from prized solid Adirondack red spruce and back and sides of solid mahogany. This special edition model is enhanced by a 1930s advanced X-bracing pattern made with scalloped spruce braces to attain optimal acoustic resonance. Together these woods and construction techniques provide a blend of depth, clarity, richness and warmth along with the power and projection that made the Southern Jumbo famous. The one-piece mahogany neck is carved to a comfortable modified-V profile and topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard with a 12” radius and a 14th fret neck joint. Gibson’s traditional dovetail neck joint, hot hide glue construction, a powerful tone-enhancing open slotted bridge, 17-degree back-angled headstock, genuine bone nut and solid bone bridge pins ensures the unparalleled resonance and sustain for which Gibson Acoustics are famous. Naturally the Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition is a beauty. The top is finished in a unique custom shop, sunset-toned Vintage Sunburst high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, edged in a multi-ply binding and a traditional double-ring soundhole rosette. Mother-of-pearl split-parallelogram inlays grace the fingerboard while the headstock is adorned with the traditional gold script Gibson logo and pre-war banner decal. A custom-polished tortoise pickguard protects the guitar’s top. Finally, a set of high-quality, open-backed Waverly™ nickel tuners with pearloid buttons ensures smooth action and a tight hold at the headstock. J-1854Me
CONGRATZ! Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition Sheryl Crow is one of the finest performing artists of .... Crow’s new SJ Special Edition raises the bar .... Naturally the Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition is a beauty. The top is finished in a unique custom shop, sunset-toned Vintage Sunburst high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, ......etc etc I think the OP was referring to the OTHER Sheryl Crow model, the earlier, square-shouldered Country Western model, not the later and quite distinct SJ model. (Which I would love to try sometime) Fred
EuroAussie
Yes, its the first Shazza Gibson which is the Country Western replica, or a Hummingbird standard without the bling. Welcome !

fortyearspickn
Congrats and welcome. You will find your playing improves as you come to appreciate your new, great guitar and feel challenged by it. Gibson makes different changes to models, so knowing the year it was made would help you figure out more about what is under the hood if you are interested in the different woods, etc. The serial number encodes the year, do a search and youll find out what the sn tells you. if no controls are visible for the pickup and it has an endpoint jack you can plug an amp wire into, lift the saddle and look to see if there is a copper or metal colored strip laying in the groove in the bridge. If so, that would be the transducer part of a passive under saddle p/u. You would control sound, etc. on the amp. G'Luck!
