Black Sabbath - Together Again

Rabs

Recommended Posts

Now I like me some Sabbath, im not a huge fan but what I like of theirs I REALLY like. I think to be honest Ozzy is one of those singers whos voice can grate a bit. But theres no denying their influence on modern metal and rock. Tony Iommi is a proper riff making machine and has my full respect.

Anyway, they have a new album out soon which I heard they were doing but forgot about till I saw this.

Talk about aging rockers lol (no offense to anyone who is ;).. Mind you its a miracle they survived the 70s :)

So heres a quick behind the scenes with Rick Rubin (also a total legend).. Cool to see them at it again [thumbup]

And one of the new tracks. Im interested enough to want to check the album out.

Whats your thoughts on Sabbath?

Sabbath is one of my anchor bands, I wasn't there in the 70's so my first real time Sabbath record was Heaven and Hell which is still a hell of a record in my opinion.

My only concern with the new record is that the production may sound too modern, sliders all the way up, little dynamic range and a sound affected too much by others rather than Iommi. In the Guitar World interview he states that "they" were trying to tell him how to get his sound.

Ozzy's voice sounds tired to me.

Tony is the indisputable riffmaster and his soloing is also top notch. I am sure that even if this record is not the best he is ever done it will still be good, in reality Tony has never written a bad riff in 50 years.

I know that the album will stream but I will wait to buy the CD, I do not want to hear it through laptop speaker with compression.

As a side note, here in the US the Best Buy deluxe edition will have 4 extra tracks.

If you follow it Bill wanted more upfront money basically he was wanting Ozzy to pay him out of his own pocket sounded like.

Ozzy's net worth is twice what the rest of the band is now.

They gave him every chance to do it but he stood fast so Bill caused his own mess.

I think theres more to it because Bill has quit a lot over the years he has not toured professionally or kept at it like the other guys.

Its basically a Ace and Peter deal. He isn't up to it and we all go oh that sucks but face it the dude is old and a drummer.

Takes a lot of body work to be what he was at one time and bodies don't last forever.

I have the new CD already and yes the drums are not what Bill or even Vinny did they are just there.

Its as good as the 2 tracks from Reunion. I like it a lot.

Yeah its a shame hes not part of it BUT these things happen.

Its why I didn't mention it in my original post cos im not going to speculate about what exactly happened or not.

Good article on them in the July issue of Guitar World where Tony talks about his bout with cancer, and how they got the drummer from Rage Against The Machine to take Bill Ward's place.

Yea, I read it and the story about Bill changes yet again. Tony says they simply ran out of time once he found out he had cancer they had to move without Bill.

I do not think we will ever know the truth, there are so many versions that I do not think there is a truth on this one actually.

Frankly, what I have heard so far reminds me more of the Heaven and Hell (band) album than it does of the Ozzy years.

Oh I hear you, I grew up in the Dio era of Black Sabbath, and Ian Gillan and...etc. and Bill Ward was on and off.

The thing here is that this was supposed to be the reunion of ALL the originals, it was announced that way it was a big deal and it is disappointing the way it went down, that's all.

Like Lemmy said, it's not a reunion if you don't have the originals right?

If Bill is not in good shape, he could have recorded the album and then leave the touring to another drummer.

It is what it is, I am buying the Best Buy Deluxe version to get the extra tracks, I have most Black Sabbath albums anyway.

The album is actually pretty decent, I have seen one critic giving 3 out of 5 stars but most are 4 out of 5.

I think it is a very worthy effort. The CD sounds better than my expectations these LOUD days we live in.

I bought the Best Buy version with the 12th additional track "Naivete in Black" which I like a lot, I was expecting a throw-away track but it is very nice.
