NGD- Not a Gibson

I received my first strat on Friday from Sweetwater and I have to say that I really like it. It has none of the flaws that I commonly hear associated with a MIM strat. The frets are nice and smooth, the finish is perfect, the tone is really nice. Seems to stay solidly in tune even with fairly heavy tremelo use. I bought this guitar fully expecting to want to upgrade the pickups but they sound great to me. I am going to stick with them for now. I really have nothing to complain about except that the back of the neck feels a little sticky. My hands don't slide across it as smoothly as I like. Someone suggested that I go over it with some 0000 steel wool but I am going to hold off on that. I have a feeling it will smooth out on its own with some play time. I am used to playing my Les Paul and this thing is a totally different beast. It feels a little foreign to my hands but in a nice way. I did drop it off at my favorite tech guy to give it a good pro set up with some lighter strings so I am back to waiting for it again [crying]. I was a little anxious about my purchase as it was an impulse buy but I'm thinking this one is a keeper. I will add some more thoughts and pictures once I get it back.

Yup.

I've said it before........my MIM Calssic '60s Strat is easily the closest thing I've played - in both feel and sound - to the old '64 I used to have.

Mine's poly finish, though. The Nitro version must feel nice!

As far as the p'ups are concerned; IMHO the ones fitted (to mine, at any rate) are more akin to those in the '59 Strat I used to have. A little bit too 'vintage', perhaps?

I've certainly no intention of swapping them out, though.

Good Score!

While on this subject, the guitar tech asked me if I wanted him to float the bridge or not. I have never really had a tremolo bridge so I wasn't really sure but I told him to float it. Now i am not sure if thats what I should have done, so I ask the all knowing all powerful Gibson guitar board. Float the Fender vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge, or no float?

The tune thing is not an issue if its set up right, just to put that out there.

I don't use my bar at all and have no desire to, so...I have mine with the four springs, though not block. I hear the sustain is better with the trem blocked. Bending is easier as well.

If you wanna use the bar, you know what to do, though. Some people like the sound the guitar makes floaty as well.

I'd say Float.

If you DO try it but decide you don't like it then putting it back is a simple matter.

And if you DON'T try it you'll never know.........
