mcgruff
Hi I've got a Bigsby-type tremolo (Wigsby) to fit to my dot but first I'd like to ask for some advice. I can position the tremolo to increase or decrease the string break angle over the bridge. Is there an ideal break angle for these guitars? Or can I choose within a range of values to tweak the tonal characteristics of the guitar? The Wigsby requires a rout so I have to get this right first time. roadhog96
I don't know about a Bigsby or Wigsby but I've found that having the break angle at the bridge the same as the headstock works the best. All I can suggest is to try it and see how it feels. One of the reasons the stop bar tail piece was designed to be adjusted in height was to accommodate the bridge height which varies between players preferences in string action. Some people swear having the bridge screwed down tight against the body increases sustain but I haven't personally experienced this and I've done my fair share of experimenting in this area. Supposedly raising it lessens the string tension making string bends easier. Again, this is subjective.
