Coil tapping

Anyone ever have this done to their sg? I have a 61RI and am considering having this done. I have another guitar that has has coil tapping with similar humbuckers and love the single coil tone. I am really partial to this guitar and only have the other for emergency or slide. I will probably never sell, but could just return to original if I wanted.

If the pickups are 4 wire, I would go for it. It is a cheap way to get 3 new sounds from it.

I'd use a push pull as my bridge pickup tone pot. It will be easy to get to... but not too easy as to hit it by mistake when tapped. I do this to all of my humbucker guitars. I took the stock pups out of my Les Paul because they were two conductor.

The last incarnations of the SG Standard before going to a new design for 2013,(smaller guard, pickups, etc.) had coil-splitting for somewhat of a single coil sound.

IMO, the neck position sounds more like a true single-coil than the bridge pickup does in single coil mode. At least in the Les Paul Traditional Pro that I had.

For a while, a lot of Gibson models came with that option after the first Les Paul Trad. Pros. came with that feature.

They were, and are mostly called the "Pro" models.

Also, FYI- I believe coil "tapping" is different than coil-splitting.
