I don't own one of these but it seems Collings attends to maximizing each spruce top..

I've owned some Collings....one thing, Collings pretty much does NOT let a guitar out of their shop that has fit and finish problems. Each one is relatively speaking, perfect. BUT, I find the sound of Collings to be tight, thin somewhat. All his guitars are Martin or Gibson clones as far as I see. Not a lot of inovation or creative new looks at the guitar. Maybe it's the bolt on neck, though I think not, but just not my sound. I traded mine away. Every part of a Collings is CNC made, including the braces.....and then assembled.....not so much hands on, lathered, etc....I admire them, but prefer the sound of Martins or Gibsons...just my take...

Interesting..I had a good go at them when I was shopping for the best acoustic guitar and felt that Collings & Santa Cruz pretty much both sounded like a new upper Martin.

So its all CNC..how do you like that..

Its just not worth the money if its not a hand made guitar.

The guitar I came out finding the best sounding was Lowden..Huss & Dalton & a Bill Moll (basic mah one)

The fit and finish thing does not bother me at all when it comes to instruments..thats more of a furniture issue.

I'm on my 3rd Collings guitar over a period of ten years, every one I ever played sounded just the way it was designed to sound and the build is near flawless. If you can find a good deal on a good used one it is equity, you should never loose a penny. Bill Collings is one of the most well regarded luthiers by his peers.

Collins are expertly built guitars, but I've always come away feeling they sounded cold and impersonal.

They are kind of like the Budweiser of guitars. Budweiser is an excellent "product", from a quality and consistency point of view, but not much flavor!

This is a step that should be done on every pricey guitar.Described towards the middle on of this video.

Interesting.

But bracing is important too.

Collings is a good guitar. The ultra precision CNC build, and the bolt on neck are wonderful features, probably better and more stable than most necks. Their fit and finish, can be quite superior to some of the more well know sloppy guitar makers.
