Covers part deux

The other thread (Izzy's) got me thinking about covers. I love to change the tempo/style/feel etc. of cover tunes. Anyone else find it fun to do covers differently? Post your "odd" covers here. For example, here's one of the ways I like to do an old Rolling Stones song. They are welcome to sue me for the $0 I have made thus far on this cover! [biggrin]

My band does a version of a Bob Welch-era Fleetwood Mac song "Miles Away". Made it a heavy song! Sorry, nothing to show.

We also change up "Just Got Paid", turn "Slow Down" (by Larry Williams...famously covered by The Beatles) into a heavy rocker, and make jams out of "Jesus Just Left Chicago", and "La Grange".

Oh, and we do "Red House" OUR OWN way. In the key of A. Sounds nothing like Hendrix.

Not bad my man! Where you ever in a Stones tribute band? [thumbup]

I found on occasion that I've had to transpose a song that I really wanted to cover. I don't think I ever "Butchered" a cover (not intentionally). It was usually because I had trouble with the guitar part's as I'm mainly a chord and riff guy. If it's got singing that I can't hit the correct note/scale or its got complex guitar "hook's" etc, I will likely just move on to something that I can do.

Thanks. Never been in a Stones cover band, though I do have a Strat set up 5 sting for Keef style riffage and I'm not afraid to use it. [biggrin]

I probably could have posted a more traditional take on that song for comparison as I've played it "straight" many times. It's just so much more fun having your way with it ya know?

Here's a Fleetwood Mac cover that a friend and I did. I played bass and sang. It's not too radical but I tried to funk the bass up a bit. The only guitar I played on it is the Whammy solo part. All the rest is my buddy Dave Mac.

This one is also a slight departure from the original. I played everything on here with my P bass and my 64 Melody Maker. The entire track from idea to final mix was about 2 hours.

This is a strange take on a UFO classic. No one likes it but me... I think it's the weak vocals that kill it for most.

I may put some more up later. [scared]

Liked all of those. The vocals on Space Child are what make it different - more laid back. [thumbup]

Nice work! It reminds me of a lot of 90's punkish stuff that I like so much like the SuperSuckers.

Don't have to much material with the guys that i play with, but i have this clip "7 nation army" in standard tuning. Two guitars where one of them play freely solo stuff over chorus . First time i played in public(a party late summer 2011)

That's really tight! Also you guys did a massive job of recording it live. The sound is fantastic. Great job!

Thanx man, yea i was surprised of the sound. It was only the mic of my camera, nothin' more. I placed it in the middle and behind amps and PA.

This was fantastic Awel. You guys are really tight live which is the true test of any band in my opinion. Really love the breakdown for the slide solo. [thumbup]

Thanks Searcy, really appreciated [thumbup]
