mikejohnson Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 It's finally happened! And not at all like I expected! I've been putting away pennies for a long time for a J-45 as that has been my perfect "attainable" guitar for some time. I've been playing only a short time, but what a great hobby this has become for me. So anyway, I'm in the GC in Montgomery, AL playing the 45 and the salesman comes in the acoustic room (with plugs in his ears, no doubt) and hands me this SJ-100, I look at it and tell him "no thanks, I'm saving for this 45". He leaves it in front of me. I play it. Sleep on it one night. Pick it up the next day. Take it home and put new strings on it. What a very cool guitar-great sound, playablity, versatlity, uniqueness, even comfort! I love this thing. BTW, I see GC and it's employees getting bad press on some sites, but the guys in Montgomery are very cool and helpful. Maybe that's because it's not a WalMart sized GC or maybe it's because I got such a great deal, but I had no problems there and enjoyed the sales staff and managers. This one is definitely a keeper and one I'll be able to pass down to my son or daughter.
ryanfender Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Post some pics of your new jumbo. I also am looking for a good J-45, J-100, SJ-200. The SJ-200 has been what I have wanted for 10 years but they are so expensive. I love the J-45 too though. Maybe someday I can have both.
suburude63 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Keep the J 185 in mind a sweet looking and sounding guitar!!!
ryanfender Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Thanks suburude63, I will keep it in mind but for some reason I have never played a J-185 that I really liked. I continue to play every one I see but never found a good one.
EScottG Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Congratulations Mike! I finally got a J-100 a couple of months ago and it's awesome. I owned a really good J-45 for about fifteen years and, even though I wish I had it back, I prefer the J-100. Enjoy! Scott
Wayne Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Wise Choice on that 100. I luvs my maple 100.
Jayla Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 The SJ-100 is a really fine guitar. Got one myself (actually, it's a J-100 XTRA). Posted a write-up of it recently. You can read it here if you like. Don't forget to share some pix when you have a chance.
