Luis Coll
Hey! I'm going away on vacation for three weeks, and taking my guitar with me would cost me tons of money! I've been practicing a lot lately and i feel that i'll loose al my progress... The question is, will i? How long have you guys spent without playing, 'cause my limit is like two days and i'm really worried about it

surfpup
You may actually find yourself a bit rejuvenated when you return. And remember, half of it is mental not physical. You can always "play" in your head - scales, chord theory etc. - if you are worried about forgetting stuff.
STEVIL
Any chance you could get a cheap travel guitar?

quapman
No worries. 3 weeks is a blip in your lifetime. And as Surfpup said,, it may even be a positive thing. Going through your scales mentally is a very good practice. Just don't quit for 20 years like I did,,, I'm pretty sure that break hurt my playing..lol.. Rabs
Breaks are good sometimes.. I go through phases... Some where I play every day for months, some when I don't play at all due to being busy or just not into it at any given moment (and some due to illness). It wont do you any harm at all :) You can get rusty but a good two or three sessions and your back.. Don't worry about it dude
pippy
IMX it isn't that my playing suffered - like the rest have said it's almost a good thing - but my fingertips lose the hard skin layer and I need to toughen them up all over again. I've been known to carry my old Strat in my rucksack when on a hillwalking holiday. Just unbolted the neck and stuffed it and the body into the pack. If you do this just remember to pack a screwdriver as well..... Sure; it cuts down on the number of fresh sets of underwear you can carry but, be honest, which is more important? When I was still 'young-free-single' and went on holiday I would visit guitar shops for half-an-hour each day to keep in shape. I'd politely explain to the staff I'm not going to buy anything but I'd really appreciate being allowed to play on anything just to keep 'in shape' and was always made very welcome. I'm about to go off for three weeks and I know it will take the same amount of time to 'return to normal' after I get home. P.

Pads; that's the issue for me too. As pip said, visit the guitar shop and get a between day practice if you can, if you can't, asside from the pads, you won't loose anything from letting a week or even a months slide. I went years, YEARS, like ten plus, without playing piano and within a couple of months I was back where I had been. I'm more commited to playing now and within my first year I feelt more comfortable than ever. The past expirience helped sort me to start, but really what I hear now is all the work I've done recently.
kidblast
I've been playing since I was 10,, (that was 46 years ago - like already said, if you've been this for any length of time, it's not going to matter) Three weeks is nuthin to worry about IMO too... You'll loose the rust in about a day or maybe two. Go have fun and -- Don't worry about it..
