makkustheman
i have a gibson sg 70's tribute with mini humbuckers in it, and i was wondering if there was anyway that i could replace those mini humbuckers with regular sized ones, and if so, and help in doing this project. darling67
Well, I am sure you could have it done with not too much trouble. Only thing I can think of that might create a "challenge" is the space around the pickups with regard to the pick guard. Might need some filing. I'd simply take it into a local Guitar Center—or anywhere else that has qualified techs to do such work. Good luck!

Personally I like mine on the heritage, but to each their own. Definitely though would let someone more technical than myself do it, just in case I ruined the whole job. sg50
I'd simply take it into a local Guitar Center—or anywhere else that has qualified techs to do such work. I wouldn't trust Guitar Center to have qualified techs. You can tell by the setup on every single guitar in Guitar Center.
makkustheman
thanks for the replys, i'll go and see a guitar center, and some of the local guitar stores stores too to see if they might be able to do it seeing as guitar center can be unreliable. DiamondJig
There some companys that make HB that fit into a Mini/P90 route. Dimarzio http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/soap-bar GFS http://store.guitarfetish.com/NEW-Soapbar-180-Humbuckers--Fits-P90-Soapbar-Guitars_c_276.html or I would sell her and buy what you really want

quapman
I am in the anti routing camp as well. Pretty sure it will decrease the value. That said, it is your guitar not mine. What don't you like about them? If it is as simple as they have become microphonic you can get them potted. Very common on those old mini's. NHTom
Either go with a mini sized alternative or sell and get another one....... Don't do anything permanent......only "bolt on" NHTom
guitarzan13
Do NOT cut up that guitar!! There are a lot of great small buckers that will fit into those spots. If it is the look that you are going for, flip it and get another guitar. IMHO
charlie brown
Put "soap bar" P-90's in it, save some more money, and Get an SG "Original!" If you don't want, or like the Maestro, get the 2013 SG Standard, intstead. BOTH are Awesome!! That way, you're covered, for both "fat" single coil sound (P-90's), and Humbuckers ('57's, on the "Original," and 2013 Standard)! Best of Both Worlds! drzing
If I'm not mistaken, it is the same routing used for P90s, in your guitar. IMHO its easier to convert it into a HB guitar than the opposite, you don't need it really routed that far, you only need some millimiters off, the less you take, the best. I am turning my P90 SG Special into HB, I'm going with mounts. Sorry P90s, but I need some more dirt in my sound. EDIT: I think it would be best to carve them both towards each other, you don't wanna dig towards the neck, IMHO. I am no luthier, though, I just play.
