albertjohn
I have a new SWD - see my topic "First Time Gibson Owner". I live in Essex UK which is the driest county in a rather wet country. (Wet as in rain, not attitude - for this purpose anyway!) I've seen posts recommending humidifiers/ plasic bags containing holes and wet sponges etc. How concerned should I be? I store it in its case in a cool room in the house, nowhere near a central heating radiator. Any advice concerning humidity and temperature would be welcome. TheLiveSoundGuy
Congratulations John. You're gonna love it. I just bought one last night myself. I've been having a ball with it all. I personally would use a good humidifier. I use a Planet Waves, and a Martin in body humidifier in mine. I doubt it could hurt. Have fun with her. BillDuck
You should get a hygrometer to show what the humidity level is. It is just as bad to overhumidify than it is to underhumidify. Either way, you won't know what you need until you know where you are starting. Small ones that fit in the guitar case are pretty affordable. I'm not sure what Gibson recommends, but I like to keep mine between 45% and 55% RH. But I don't worry until it gets below 40% RH. Whichever humidifier you pick, they can put off a lot of moisture. Check the level in the case to make sure you are at a safe level.
Jerry K
Pet shops generally carry small hygrometers (for cages of lizards and such) which are generally the same as the ones sold for guitar cases and cheaper.
