ParlourMan
This is madness.... Nobody's going to take you up on this, even if they are a dealer. They have a minimum advertised price, how they discount other than that is discretionary. They're not allowed to advertise lower than the set min. They may (And likely will go a good bit lower) but they can't scream & shout about it, especially not on the manufacturers own website.

zombywoof
While I know it varies I always considered 40% off MSRP pretty standard and therefore not really a great deal. 60% off - now your talking.
rar
It's not madness, ... Given that there are a lot of brick and mortar stores with a nice selection of Gibsons that can afford to offer 40% to anyone but not to everyone, it's kinda madness. -- Bob R

RichG
While I know it varies I always considered 40% off MSRP pretty standard and therefore not really a great deal. 60% off - now your talking. Agree. My most recent purchase of a guitar, not Gibson, from a brick and mortar store where I sat and played it was 60.8% of the list price. That's 39.2% off MSRP. This was a higher end guitar, list price $5500. Same discount available most online sellers. I prefer to buy in person. Yes, I paid sales tax. I can't get hung up on percentages of discounts. My process is "Nice guitar. How much?" then it either goes with me or not. My wife won't go shopping with me. :-)
onewilyfool
I've seen some pretty deep discounts on "used" or shop-worn guitars at M.F., various degrees of abuse, never seen 60% off, though, and the used ones don't come with a warranty, which kind of sucks....I think RDR is pulling our leg a little......lol, anyway, this is a HB "PRO", not really a HB standard....I've seen these resell on Craigs list in our area for $1000, not an easy guitar to resell. Perhaps Gibson is emptying that warehouse someone mentioned in an earlier post????? Plus, I get %20 off coupons from M.F. for a single item, about twice a year.....sometimes it works for Gibsons and sometimes they are excluded..... Dave F
Two months ago. GC J45 Standard list $3165 Was NOS from 2009 Played great, sounded great, perfect neck angle, absolutely no shop wear. They said it had been setting around in a warehouse for a few years. Had an issue with the top. Apparently the factory forgot to seal the top wood before they finished it so most of the grains are open and shows up in the finish. They kept it too long and could not return it to Gibson. GC had it marked down for clearance plus there was a 15% off if you traded something in. I brought an old pedal I'll never use. FInal price $1250 (60% off list) with full new warranty. Great guitar. zombywoof
I know two guys who snagged new guitars with warranties at different stores for 60% off - both were Taylor guitars.

I'm pretty lucky, my wife let's me have whatever I want More markup on high-end guitars no doubt and it wasn't a Gibby I've seen some pretty deep discounts on "used" or shop-worn guitars at M.F., various degrees of abuse, never seen 60% off, though, and the used ones don't come with a warranty, which kind of sucks....I think RDR is pulling our leg a little......lol, anyway, this is a HB "PRO", not really a HB standard....I've seen these resell on Craigs list in our area for $1000, not an easy guitar to resell. RunningDownTheR
Yeah, I agree, it can't always be the final $. The sound and feel has to be right. What is typically cost to the dealer (in relation to Gibson's MSRP list). I'm sure cost for the bling has more markup. I've had one 5 star tell me the deal I held in my hand from another dealer was below cost so there had to be something wrong with it? Is that another sales pitch? Jeremy Morton
NO it is not just a sales pitch.
RunningDownTheR
NO it is not just a sales pitch. So why would a big time guitar dealer sell Gibson's workhorse for less than cost if it's "new" out of the box and the only item being purchased? GDC
None I know would. I bought and electric some time back at 50 off, but the store had had it well over a year and they wanted to turn it.over and replace it with a faster seller.
Smurfbird
Maybe they just wanted proof that you wouldn't buy the guitar no matter how good a deal they threw at you?

Try exercising your imagination a little. There are zillions of reasons to sell stock at a loss rather than sit on it any longer. They mostly fall under the general heading of having a better use for the money. There are retailers out there who will never, under any circumstances, sell at a loss. They mostly don't stay in business long. -- Bob R
