saturn
How many times have you listened to certain songs and wondered "what is this song about"? Of course songs like Hotel California and Stairway To Heaven have been pondered for years. But there are so many other songs with wierd symbolism that makes me scratch my head. Here's one I always wondered about. Even as a kid I somehow figured it was some type of metaphor for the cold war. Well now thanks to the web I finally havea clue. Maybe it would have been more clear if I was European. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_Without_Frontiers_%28song%29 As always, feel free to post your own. Edit: I fixed that screwed up link to the Wikipedia page. Do any of the European members remember the old game show it references?
Izzy
I know Seal was asked once why he never writes out his lyrics and he said it was because the words may have special meaning to someone and if the listener is wrong about a word, upon discovering the real word, the meaning changes and that person becomes dissapointed with the song at that point. I think "meaning" is in the same vein. Assuming we have the right words, I think its better not to find out what the songs are actually about if they already mean something to you. I had a favorite song and I always related it to...something the songs is not about, as I discovered. The song doesn't touch me as it once did, and I wish I hadn't found out what the song was about. This is the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkeQ3KN6s8o
darling67
I got a good chuckle out of learning that, "Got To Get You Into My Life" was about pot! I always assumed the song was about a love interest of Paul's. In the end, I guess it was! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqwxn8DzER8
quapman
From one of the greatest songwriters of all time(at least in my mind). You gotta love Neil. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA6UM0ZM6r4
Guest Farnsbarns
My wife thought that Adam Ant's Prince Charming had a line declaring that Rentokill was nothing to be scared of! Oh how I laughed... Oh how long it's been for me not not let it go.. ;) What was John Bon Jovi thinking with his "holy ghosty" in Bed of Roses? Must have been desperate for a rhyme. Anyone got any clue what "driving through your suburbs into your blues" means.

He either sold it to, or bought it from Bucks Fizz Never actually spoke to him though. Edit: Not Bucks Fizz, Adam Faith, Bucks Fizz had a house round the corner set up as a studio, Comforts Place, my wife worked there as a teenager. rocketman
At the end of 2112 I never understood the lyrics "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation, we have assumed control." Turns out it was the good guys coming in to take over. So Peart put a happy ending on a sad story.
kaleb
All the KISS lyrics that I eventually found out were about male sexual organs. Love Gun= Paul Stanley's **** Nothin' To Lose= anal sex Rocket Ride- Ace's rocket Shock Me= Ace wants to be ****ed But of all the KISS lyrics, the one I wonder most about is "Torpedo Girl"... I'm sure this is about our world constantly at war, at least that what its sounds like to me but many POP/Rock songs make no since at all and where never meant to. darling67
Excuse me while i kiss this guy! That's what I always sing to myself—knowing, of course, it's wrong. I just like to sing that! Haha! I'll never leave your pizza burning. How considerate of Mick Jagger. LOL! A friend of mine had a friend in high school who's mom thought it was, "I'll never be your Easter Bunny..."! Serious. When I was 10 years old—and just beginning to appreciate music—one of my first favorite songs was, "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" by Queen. I hadn't a clue what he was singing, but some highlights of my youthfully-misconstrued lyrics were as follows: "I've taken my bows, and my curtain calls..." What I heard: "I've taken my vows, and my cousin Klaus....". "But it's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise...". What I heard: "But it's been no bed of roses, no flesh or crude...". (At the time, there were gasoline shortages every week, it seemed. So I think that's where that one came from). J.R.M.30!
Why on earth would anybody want to know what a song is about? It's like trying to define what "love" is and what it means to everyone! Sorry I'm not the man up stairs! :-" Furthermore, a lot of songs are about what can't be explained anyway, so onward with your little hypothesizing of the undefinable! jaxson50
I once spent three hours searching chordie.com for the lyrics to any heavy metal or death metal song. Chordie is a web site where fans can post tabs and lyrics to their favorite songs. Not one fan posted one song with lyrics included. That says something I guess. The words are usually screamed or churned from the mouth with a mic down your throat, like Linda Lovelace, nobody cares what your saying.
