I am gasing for a 12 fret Gibson...but small body....

I am still hoping to see a 1943 LG-1 Mahogany Top reissue a la John's project... Or a 24 3/4 scale Keb Mo with an unbound fretboard and headstock with Antique Acoustic open back tuners...i am wondering what the new line is going to be....wallet in hand...

Guys...I'm telling you...you need to try these out before gassing for one. The sound hole location, and how you place your arms and hands for playing is COMPLETELY different than a J-45...also after playing MANY 12 fritters, I really came to the decision that I like the 14 fretters better. Still I have some 12 fretters and I like them, just like the 14 fretters better. The JB just needs some getting used too...I think some guys bought and sold them because they couldn't get used to the 1 7/8" nut width...so please try before buy!!!

Amazing how many hummingbird shoppers walk away with something else. Happened to me a few times, crazily enough the only hummingbird I'd have bought is an old 60s job with the adj bridge that belongs to a friend of a friend. A bit battered but lovely, skinny neck though...

Lush photograph of the Adi JB there, Dan. Good post, as well.

Most of us here know that very few pay that price for something like the JB1, and that the used market is where these can be found more reasonably priced. LarryP recently had his Model 1 offered for $2800, and within the last 9->12 months, there was one on the Trading Post for so significantly less than that, that it's listing curiously disappeared from the record.

The deeper-bodied Gibson Jackson Browne offers a different playing experience, and definitely sounds like a high-end guitar. Maybe my ear just likes to like spend more time on the other side of the tracks more often than not.

edit: Dan, give us back the beautiful photo, sans text!

(edit)^2: Thx...

Interestingly, to me, price of these doesn't seem to carry to what the instrument is, or ought to be? worth. The few used examples we have seen may be people that were in a position of needing to sell' as much as wanting to sell. Still, a $3,000 price used, off a $4,000 + price new, seems to be in the ballpark of reality. This is not a J-35. My 2 cents. These are still a bit difficult to find, are they not? By the way, an open invitation to anyone here who might be in my area of Colorado - you are sure welcome to swing by and plug this baby in and give it a test drive. [biggrin]

I'd be thrilled with a Roy Smeck (No JB sig) done in their current stylee, ie, Aiming for the market that isn't spending 4-5k...

I can afford a JB model, I even have the money sitting ready, but it's just not worth the asking price, at the end of the day it's a 12-fretter dred with a slightly deeper body, its still a template guitar (as are they all) the raw material upcharge doesn't merit the asking price and I'm no JB fan so I don't want to have to line his pocket with a few hundred either... for me there's no real reason (for non-amulet model) to be any more expensive than a J-45TV and that's even being courteous.

When they get sensible, I'll buy, but I've no interest in lining JB's pockets and paying over the odds for a dred with a shorter neck and deeper body
