Zeppeholic
Hello there, can somebody help me? I want to know if this wiring is possible on a 3 pickup les paul; when the toggle switch is in the middle, can the sound go through ALL 3 pickups instead of just one or two? Can I have the out-of-phase setting equipped on the rhythm tone knob so when I pull it up, it plays the out-of-phase feature through the middle pickup (just the middle pickup) I had this in mind; push/pull pots 3 pick ups coil taps (for the neck and bridge) on the volume knobs pure bypass equipped onto the treble tone knob so, when all knobs are down, it'll play through all 3 pickups, pure bypass will do what it does and play through the bridge pickup, coil taps for the neck and bridge, and out-of-phase through the middle pickup when the rhythm tone knob is pulled up Is this possible? Guest Farnsbarns
It's all possible except that I don't understand what you mean about the middle pickup being out of phase on its own. You can't have a single pickup out of phase as it has nothing to be out of phase with. That's only possible with 2 pickups playing at once. btoth76
Hello! I would go with a 6-way pickup selector: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Components:_Switches_and_knobs/Free-Way_Pickup_Switch.html Then, You can have almost all the pickup combinations of a 3PU Les Paul (seven) - except for one: all-pickups. To have this I would add a push/pull pot to switch on the middle pickup (in position when neck and bridge is on). Another push/pull to make the middle pickup "out-of-phase" with others, another to bypass all controls. Maybe a push/pull for serial wiring of neck and bridge pickups. I think, that's what "Jimmy Page" wiring is called? Cheers... Bence

Sorry, this stuff is kinda fascinating to me and I would certainly like to know. Do all three pickups need to be 4-wire/4 conductor?
Zeppeholic
okay wait a second... why do I need a push/pull knob for the sound to go through all 3 pickups? Can't I just assign it to a toggle position? there are 7 positions with the 6-way toggle switch; here is what I want mine to be; 1; Middle position, it has the middle pickup active 2, neck pickup active 3, the bridge pickup is active 4, neck and middle pickup active 5, middle and bridge pickup active 6, neck and bridge pickup are active 7, neck middle and bridge pickups (all 3) are active aren't I able to select all three pickups at once with the toggle switch? Sorry, this stuff is kinda fascinating to me and I would certainly like to know. Do all three pickups need to be 4-wire/4 conductor? Pickups on a stock Les Paul are in parallel (middle position, both on). You can have them wired in series as well, It's kind of having a 4-bobbin humbucker. Really thick tone. You can also wire the individual coils of a humbucker in series too, to get meatier sound. For splitting the coils, You'll need 4-wire pickups. Not sure about the rest. What I was thinking - since I like Your idea of having a thousand-tone LP - is to install Seymour-Duncan P-Rails' in neck and in bridge position with their Triple-Shot pickup-rings. That ring has two microswitches, that allows You to choose the P-90 part of the pickup, the Blade section, both in parallel, and both in series. That's 4 options per pickup! Install a 4-wire humbucker in the middle with the Triple-Shot - that's 4 more option! So You have 4 sound variations for each pickup! With the 6-way switch You can combine them in countless ways. Plus, You can have push/pulls for phase, bypass, serial/parallel, all-pickups on... http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/medium-output/prails_shpr1/ http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/accessories/triple-shot-mou/ http://www.tdpri.com/forum/attachments/just-pickups/69334d1294895866t-wiring-seymour-duncan-p-rails-shpr-2-triple-shot-jpg Cheers... That's why I've recommended a push/pull pot for activating the middle pickup when neck and bridge pickups are both on. Hello! Zeppeholic! You can assign a toggle position for all-three, instead one of the settings You've listed above. I personally think it's more convenient to do with a push/pull. The choice is Yours. :) Cheers...
