Silly p90's question

Recommended Posts

Silly question, but here goes.... the dogear p90's, why are they always black or cream these days? The chrome/nickel covers look so much better to my eye, how come they never make the covers like that anymore?

Cheers

although chrome looks nice, compared to the plastic covers, the chrome ones are real tone suckers (in most peoples opinion)- plus, if you happen to hit the pickup with your pick, it makes a much louder noise thru the amp than do the plastic ones.

Then again, figure the cost of plastic, vs chrome plated metal- it's cheaper to make.

Fwiw - I have quite a few guitars with dog-ear P90s,

mostly black, but one with chrome & one with nickel.

I much prefer the black covers to nickel or chrome,

which present a bit too big of a shiney blob, imho.

They do roll of a bit of the high end, same as on an HB but it is a bit more noticable.

A tad more microphonic (you dont notice as much on a casino because by the time the pu gets microphonic the rest of the guitar is feeding back like a MF)

More expensive to make

More complicated to install (has to be soldered in place)

Not difficult to do but if there is little demand why go through all the minuses for a cosmetic plus.

My guess is as good as theirs.

Oh, just say it, Sambooka, feeding back like a Muppet Friend.
