sellen
Bought my a player not so long ago. Its fun to play those old records from the 80's again. Got it's own sound. As i had a new amp, i needed a phono stage. I bought the cheapest at the time, but i will upgrade it. Anyone got a good one to recommend? Anyway here's my player Rega RP3 Here's Back in black 1981 and 2011, recorded them from my LP player with my Boss recorder. which on do you prefer? . Well i got some time off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRF69kSNLyg
Riffster
My set up is not all that expensive but it sounds great. I have a good Sony receiver that is about 8 years old and has a dedicated Phono input so it does not need a pre-amp. My turntable is an Audio-Technica AT-LP120 which is essentially a copy of a Technics SL-MK1200 but without the price tag. I replaced the original cartridge/stylus with a Shure M97xE because it tracks lighter than the stock one. I run this setup through a set of Aiwa speakers with 10" woofers and a sub-woofer, I also have a set of speakers out on the deck so I can play music outside when I am grilling or hanging out. Unfortunately buying vinyl has become very trendy and prices for used stuff has doubled from a few years ago. I have all my records from the 80's and I only buy "target" records based on desirability/price.
sellen
Cool set-up Riffster As some of my old records have battle scares, i got some new reissues. Some are bad compared to the original! Have you had similar experience?
Riffster
No, I read a lot before I buy a re-issue. The Dynamic Range database I posted here is a good source. I try to buy original editions, used in good shape, I rather hear a little crackle and pop than a crappy re-master, for instance those 70's AC/DC records cannot be improved if you ask me, the ones I have sound great. Then there are re-masters that do sound great like the re-issue of Ozzy's Blizzard of Oz and Dairy of a Madman.

Riffster
I have the first 6 Black Sabbath re-issue albums on the label Rhino and they sound great. They just released Never Say Die and technical Ectasy but I have not bought them yet.

hellion102792
I started to try and build a collection this year. There's a record store down the street from my apartment at school where I've spent hours at in the past year. So far I've picked up: -Who's Next -Dark Side of the Moon -Beastie Boys 12-inch DJ single for "Hold It Now, Hit It" -Scoop (Pete Townshend) -Quadrophenia (1980 pressing with the black and white photo book) -Straight Outta Compton because why not? -Relapse by Eminem -The Wall (found a first US pressing in VG+ vinyl/VG+ sleeve-condition for only $25) -Mothership Connection by Parliament -Quadrophenia Demos 1 (record store day ltd. edition) And brought over from my dad's collection: -Led Zeppelin IV -Tommy and The Who Sell Out -Paranoid by Sabbath -Back in Black and Highway to Hell -Abraxas by Santana -Animals by Floyd (first US pressing with unused lyric in "Dogs" on the sleeve) -Blizzard of Ozz -A bunch of Beatles, Beach Boys, 60's pop, and whatever else is in his bookshelf full of records. It's a fun hobby, nothing like spending a couple hours flipping through bins.
Riffster
I also added some shelves on the wall of my guitar room to display a few records. I change them out as I please. I have seen people do a wall with long thin shelves full of records, it looks so cool.
Izzy
I have a ridiculous number of records that my would-have-been mother-in-law gave me as she was upgrading to cds and a bose set up. I have beatles, Stevie Wonder, Led Zep, Janis, LOADS of Jethro Tull, Stones, etc....I have not listened to over half of these. Mostly I play old mariachi records and my LIVE Marlena Dietrich records. My mom has her own collection and in it there's Jhonny Winter and Santana stuff...loads of classical and blackness like Sly and the Family and Earth Wind and Fire. Mom's thick Mexican accent singing, "Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud," is so....weird. I have four turn tables. One is under a couch for safety. I won't give up my vynil. When I have more money I plan on expanding the collection, for now, I visit bargain bins and resale shops lots.
Riffster
-The Wall (found a first US pressing in VG+ vinyl/VG+ sleeve-condition for only $25) See, this is an example on how pricey used vinyl has gotten. About 5 to 7 years ago you could find this album for $10, I saw several copies over the years in pristine condition. the other thing that grinds me is the limited editions on new records, if you miss the boat its all over, like the Black Crowes Before the Frost...I did not buy it and now it costs a fortune, meh. Heh.. That price was from Amazon too. I found a similar edition in a store for $40. And the Immersion box set with the remastered vinyl (which supposedly doesn't sound much different at all) is over $100. At least that comes with all the bonus stuff though. sellen
That's my kinda art Riffster Pretty cool collection already Hellion and Izzy -"I have four turn tables. One is under a couch for safety" So why 4 Players? I found it a bit amusing what you call it, turntable. I thought you called it Vinyl/record/LP player I honestly thought those used LP's would be more expensive. I thought i had something special in my collection, like that '81 maxisingle with Let's Ge It Up AC-DC. A quick research on ebay show's that i can get that one for 10-20$. Played through Wolfmother's album Wolfmother today. Love that album, and it sounds awesome to
