How would describe the music scene where you live? Mine doesn't extactly stack up to that of Memphis, Muscle Shoals, etc. etc. Sure it has a cook-off at the local community college, a brown-bag lunch downtown and a patio concert also downtown but that's about it. It used to have a Lollipop concert. It still has a youth orchestra where they're are occasional concerts. I also don't think they have a concert band (made up of brass, woodwinds, percussian etc. etc.) like they use to years ago. Hey, maybe I should investigate and find some more music in my dot of the world! [smile]

Well, where I live, about 40 feet down the street right now is a street dance. Last night there was a brass band concert. Next week 5 days of street dances outside one downtown saloon - and the saloon across the highway (50 footsteps away) usually has weekend live music.

It's a town of roughly 6,000.

I bet there will be 500 local and pro bands and acts playing in my town this weekend of just about any type and style you can think of. It's good to live in Music City.

There are about 10 local acts, not counting open mics and house bands, each weekend and about 3 or four on a weekday.

The majority of bar owners want cover bands, but the avantguard places have a cool mix of local indie acts. I once went to a little coffehouse and one of the local legends, Uncle Tick, who plays banjo usually, was getting down with a saw. Its jusst so random. He wasn't anounced, he jsut asked to play and he did.

Houston Press Awards has the best of local acts and gives out awards. There is a big show this sunday I think, several bars will host five bands each from 5:30 to whatever...very cool.
