4Hayden Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Yep the cheap Les Paul, bought it in 2010 or 2011, neck feels great and I love to play it.
Wild_Rose Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 good to hear! but it's not a cheap guitar! it may be cheaper than the Standard/custom models, but it's NOT cheap!
capmaster Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Can't say from a distance how it feels and sounds, but it looks great and in no way cheap.
charlie brown Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Well, "cheap" is relative. I prefer to think of Gibson's "less expensive" models, as "Resonably priced!" They may not have all the "bells and whistles" that the more expensive versions do, but...they get the job done, and nicely! And, with their thinner "faded" finishes, can be quite toneful, as well! CB
BigKahune Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 . Nice. Love that look - the faded brown and unbound fretboard. Inexpensive and one of the best value buys in the Gibson lineup. .
4Hayden Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 good to hear! but it's not a cheap guitar! it may be cheaper than the Standard/custom models, but it's NOT cheap! Well it was my first Les Paul and was cheaper than the other models

4Hayden Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Those faded LPs are GREAT guitars.. my brother in law has one and ive played it.. Its a Gibson and its a Les Paul and you like it, that's all you need to know :) Yeah I like it a lot, but most people think if it's not the best it's not any good.It does get the job done
charlie brown Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Yeah I like it a lot, but most people think if it's not the best it's not any good.It does get the job done Actually, "Most" people, couldn't care less! They want to hear your playing! The gear "Snobs" are just that! A really great player, can make nearly anything, that's playable, sound great. A "Poser" can't even make a great guitar, sound passable! IMHO, as always... CB
BobF_ Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Yeah I like it a lot, but most people think if it's not the best it's not any good.It does get the job done I don't know who has been in your head, but they are wrong - that is a sweet guitar.
Rabs Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Well all Gibson USA LPs are made in the same place by the same people (apart from the custom shop stuff).. But a standard and a studio are made in the same place...
NHTom Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Here's my take on finishes vs. sound....... As far as sound goes........Look at SRV's strat.......barely had finish left.......can't remember that dragging his playing down at all!!! I myself am even looking at a faded JR. even though I'm more of a shiny kind of guy. It's what I always say.....first thing I check a guitar with is my hands, second my ears, last my eyes (probably why I own some real dogs that play well...lol) I've seen some of those faded brown ones in person and they have a cool look all their own. As Rabs said....it's not like there is some "lesser" assembly line for studio models.....same factory, just not as many steps in the paint booth. Let it rock!!! NHTom

CB On this we agree CB, I can make her talk to me and that's all that counts

NHTom I agree Tom , first thing I check is how it feels in my hands neck mostly, then if it has the tone I like that's the deal breaker.I could really care less what they look like,it's what you can make come out of a guitar that counts. Thanks
kidblast Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 very hard to see the "Guitar" when one is playing it. So it's REALLY all about how you connect with it...

kidblast Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I have a crap load of guitars - more than I really need... (in total 17)... 5 usa gibbies, 4 epis, a few fenders, acoustics,,, and one epi SG bass.. the "bonding" process is a bit illusive with this number of instruments.. and I do have a #1, and a #2... from there, the ranking just gets fuzzy.. if I really had to downsize the collection, I do know which ones would have to stay... and I'd still have about 10 left!

At one time I was up to 26 guitars,I'm down to seven now, one for every day of the week

mojosman Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I have the same guitar as the original poster, a faded brown studio. I traded a G&L Tele for it. Mine is a 2012 model, and at first I loved the action and the way it played. The problem was the tone wasn't what I thought a Les Paul should sound like. I added SD Pearly Gates pickups, and a vintage wiring harness with new 500K pots, and paper in oil tone caps. Now it sounds like the Les Paul I hear in my head. Sure, I would love a flamed standard, but I just can't afford one. My studio really plays and sounds awesome.
