So here's a photo of my current LP, which looks pretty much like any other Custom:

But wait..................why are there only 3 knobs?? Because it is the "old man's" LP Custom Lite:

It really does sound pretty much like other LPs, but much lighter and thinner and so comfortable to play!!

It's a Gibson alright - as real as they get

It has a 490R in the neck with a 498T at the bridge and the toggle is for coil splitting. Personally I would preferred the traditional tone controls, but I don't hate the coil splitter that much. While it does give a different tone in the split mode, there is also a considerable drop in volume as a result. Was a limited run made 2012 tied to 60th anniverary of original LPs. I may eventually mod it to get a second tone and keep the splitter circuit just for grins. Or like most of guitars I may just play it for a few years and then trade it for something else.

The most interesting Les Paul I've seen in a long time, I looked forward to running into a few of those, I could probably be persuaded that I need one. But I don't think they are even making them anymore, it didn't last long.

Like so many of Gibson models where they make a few and then stop and make something else. I really like this guitar - it has a 50's neck profile which of course some love and some hate - but I am used to it as my first LP had that neck and I played if for over 20 years. It has rosewood fingerboard which goes against what is usually on a Custom, but again I am used to rosewood and like it. So to me it feels like a LP should and the action is low and fast. Tonally it is very close to a full thickness LP. I believe the tone comes from the mahogany slab with maple top - and all of us that have played Fenders over the years know that a guitar doesn't have to be over 2 inches thick and weigh 10 or 11 pounds to sound good.

Another nice thing was I bought it new earlier this year for about $1400 - pretty good value IMHO. So since I have one I sorta hope they don't make any more and mine will be that much rarer and in demand for those of us with bad backs who still wanna rock.
