LarryUK Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Gibson posted this on Facebook yesterday and there are two guitar that I don't know. The red and white, 2nd in from left. A bit like and SG but with a bigger upper horn and the dark one on the right with what looks like a Vibrola arm. What are they?
btoth76 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Quoted from an 'online friend' for truth.... Makes me wonder, if they know the truth so well, why do they keep on pushing out all this?
btoth76 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 What if Ted McCarty had stopped bringing out new Models back then ? Hello Midtowner! Actually, those are the models Your "online friend" refers to by saying: "The new design has to compete against other legendary models already in the Gibson catalog". Just stick to those legendary ones. But, I don't want to be cruel to designers. I can imagine how hard it is, but come on: The Eye? The N-225? That's the best they can come up with? "Classic"-series Les Pauls, the Tributes, the Midtowns were brilliant ideas. Affordable variations on proven and much-liked classics. Why not go further on that road? Make an SG/Les Paul Classic Custom or a 3-PU LP Classic Custom? (whatever in similiar concept.) OK, You might want something fresh...Maybe some of the older members can recall that Italian guy, who came up with the Johnny Winter Firebird. What a beauty it was!!! It would have been an instant hit if released! But no, Gibson rather insists on releasing undemandingly ugly models. Cheers... Bence
LarryUK Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 But they could actually make new models that are new. These models are just an ugly body variation on what they already have. Same set up/pickups/hardware. They need to invest in a fresh designer and be revolutionary. Big fail again Gibson.
kidblast Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I kind-a like the N-225... Maybe not enough to invest in one,, dunno.. what really hurts my eyes are those zoot suit models... I just can't warm up to them at all. The Epi in the back right is a swingster and those are quite nice, and not too hard on the budget. and what's the deal with teasing us with a wall full of Gibson amps in the background that haven't been in production for years... <_<
Riffster Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Both guitars still a thounsand times better looking than the Corvus or Moderne.
surfpup Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Both guitars still a thounsand times better looking than the Corvus or Moderne. Oh, h3ll no! The Moderne is gorgeous!
Big Bill Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Quoted from an 'online friend' for truth.... Basically, the electric guitar was perfected by the late 50s and early 60s by Gibson and Fender. The shredders from the 80s may be excluded from that statement.
rct Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Basically, the electric guitar was perfected by late 1951 by Fender. Fixed it. rct
Versatile Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Personal opinion is well done Gibson for striving to re-invent the electric guitar from time to time... I agree the 'bobby dazzler' eye-fatigue finishes are not to my taste... The Moderne is very cool indeed The N-225 looks like it would play and sound very well...bearing a passing resemblance to some of UK luthier Gordon Smith's offerings V
Searcy Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 What a fantastic collection. I've seen most of these before and love them. Fantastic work.
surfpup Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 And I'd take one of those sparkly full stacks in a heartbeat!
rct Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Those Goldtone amps are leftover Trace Elliot parts, they actually have Trace Elliot stamped chassis in them, they existed briefly while Gibson owned Trace. The Mars Music around here had a halfa dozen of them, all the heads and combos clearly trace amps, they didn't even bother to cover it up. They sounded good! Not Gibson money good, they wanted way too much for them, but good. rct
STEVIL Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I really like The Eye, not so fussed about the N-225 though.
Riffster Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Oh, h3ll no! The Moderne is gorgeous! ~In childish voice~ Oh yea? why don't you marry it? I love my Explorer and V but I am not a fan of the Moderne.
surfpup Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I love my Explorer and V but I am not a fan of the Moderne. Dude, it's like your Explorer and V got jiggy and made a baby! Especially the newer reissues without the paddle headstock.
STEVIL Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Dude, it's like your Explorer and V got jiggy and made a baby! Especially the newer reissues without the paddle headstock. Count me in as another Moderne fan. However I like the RD slightly more...NO! I haven't been on the glue!
LPguitarman Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Dude, it's like your Explorer and V got jiggy and made a baby! Especially the newer reissues without the paddle headstock. Looks like a guitar Gumby would play.
bonzoboy Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Some of them are so uniquely ugly that they are just incredibly cool.I love that Day-Glo-like Green Burst version of the '61 Les Paul Custom with the Bigsby, that's the heights of coolness and if I had the bucks I'd order one today. Since the Firebird is my favourite Gibson model,I'd probably like to have the Gold-Flake one in the back row too but it's entire view is obstructed by the guitars in front of it.The amps aren't the slightest bit ugly and I'd love to have a back line filled with them.
surfpup Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Count me in as another Moderne fan. However I like the RD slightly more...NO! I like the RD. There used to be a big RD user/fan here. He's been gone a while I think. Looks like a guitar Gumby would play. I'm Gumby d@mmit! You can catch snakes with that headstock Which is not a bad thing in Florida!
