ParlourMan
You know the one, that hard piece you've heard and you think to yourself, I'm going to have a pop at that one of these days.... The one that's fairly above you but you're dying to have a go anyway. Mine: well there's a few but for the purposes of this subject I've selected Tommy E's arrangement of Daytripper (Beatles). Reason being, it's a fairly well known number first off, secondly like him or loathe him his arrangement of that tune is pure wizardry, finally, if you can suss that out to a reasonable level your thumpick skills are pretty decent. So what's yours? How close are you to a decent version and is it nearly video time?
duluthdan
James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend". I can play the first couple bars of the intro, and then I get lost - I'm trying to do it strictly by ear and memory - want to see if I can without YouTube or Tabs. blindboygrunt
Satan and saint Paul by John Fulbright is gonna make me throw myself or the guitar at the wall. I can get the picking reasonably done but to sing it at the same time makes my thumb wander off and do its own thing.

I'm utterly useless reading tab and prefer to use youtube lessons etc as a visual guide. Have you seen any?

Have you seen any? No tabs hairy Dave . but there are several videos of him doing it and the chords aren't complicated. Its the right hand that's the tricky part. Em with a hammer on on the b string . lead up to a G chord on the bass E .Am and C. Then the second part of the verse goes from Am to a B7 and back.. Piece of cake :)

kidblast
Bach's Cello Suite... I've tried it a few times. It looks easy, and maybe it is.. but not for me, ARRRG! makes me want to jump off a building after about 30 minutes...
Markini
Well these may sound simple. But it took me about a month to nail "Blackbird" to the point I could play along with the CD note per note (chord per chord). Many folks play this song with what I call "cheater chords" nothing wrong with that and it sounds darn close to the original. Another thing about Blackbird is the pace / bpm, many folks play it way too slow. Any way that was a wood shedder for me. Another supposedly simple song I had a hard time with was "Green Sleeves". Took me 10 minutes to learn the fingering, but weeks until it was smooth. Its odd because I learned Led Zepplin songs like Babe a lot faster. EuroAussie
Its a step by step process for me, so I dont try to set my sights too high at a time. But John Mayers version of Free Fallin' and Roadioheads Street Spirit were up there for conquering, and I surprised myself that I was able to get them relatively easily as they have repeating patters (and posted both attempts here if I recall) The bigger challenge for me is Blind Blake or Big Bill Broony materials, as its more synctopated and while the harmoy is repeatitve in the blues format the melody often has small but tricky differences through the tracks, oh and then there's that thing called 'touch' ... it will be a while before Ill be confident enought to post a clip from one of those two. Tommy E .... forget it.

Just cos he's a Beatle shouldn't mean he can just make up chords
