jradw27
Has anyone seen the J-45 in the Cobraburst finish in person? I've seen a couple YouTube videos and some pictures from Gibson, but not in person. Anyone seen it in person? Thoughts?

ParlourMan
I think it's the name more than anything. Cobraburst sounds terrible, cheesy, almost like it's trying to appeal to metallers and those rock bands that tend to go for ludicrous animal related names / imagery. Totally the wrong pitch.... needs a better marketing angle and backstory, doesn't look all that bad and will look almost ancient with a bit of wear & tear and maybe even some checking. But as soon as you see 'cobra' you think of everything that is terrible in music and come over all awash with gasps of "oh my good god what were they thinking?" Had I worked on that project I'd have been fired, I'd have fought tooth & nail about that name and most definitely shown the door for a bit of "Oi, Henry... Step away from the cliches you crazed micromanger" ;)

Looks a lot like the transparent black finish, actually -- the "cobraness" is fairly subtle. -- Bob R
rar
Cobraburst sounds terrible... Apparently it sounds better translated into Japanese. Apparently the cobraburst models are in much greater demand than any other finish over there. Go figure. -- Bob R

mountainpicker
I want one and a gen-u-ine Burmese python strap to go with it. I'd play nothing but Harvey "The Snake" Mandel songs on it too.

meanstreak
I like it actually. I'd like it even more if it had an ebony fretboard and bridge.

If it had all that, then it wouldn't be a J-45 as we traditionally know it.... Call it something different then...

With a wee bit of wordplay it could be an Ebony Brothers reissue? ;)
Gibs Son
Has anyone seen the J-45 in the Cobraburst finish in person? I've seen a couple YouTube videos and some pictures from Gibson, but not in person. Anyone seen it in person? Thoughts? i saw pictures on line when the color was first introduced I did not like the color. Then when i saw the color in person it looked much better then expected . The pictures on line seemed to look like the paint was to thick , you could not see the grain of the wood . when i saw it in person it was very nice , I totally changed my opinion of the color. I like it but i have a more traditional taste personally .
retrorod
I doubt that any real Gibson collectors will be talking about the Cobra Burst in fifty years unless it said with a 'laugh or snicker'..... Cobra Burst....INDEED....
