Dark Fire vs Standard 2008

Help me to choose which one is better - dark fire or standard 2008? Dark fire is nice, but most of famous guitarist play standards. When the first robot guitar came out, I thougt it was the best guitar that could be made. But now we all see that dark fire is much better than robot guitar 1. So, maybe in 2009 Gibson will announce the third generation of robot guitars but I won't be able to afford it if I buy dark fire now. And as for standard, it will be popular for many years cos it's very difficult to improve classical things. What do you think?)

If you keep thinking this way (next year will be something better) you are never going to buy anything at all. Buy now, no questions about it. If I were you I´d buy Traditional

Either the 2008 (new specs) standard or the traditional. Both great guitars and you cant go wrong with either.

And which one sounds better (has warmer tone or something...) - traditional or standard? Actually, it will be my first gibbie, so I'd like to make the best choice. And what do you think about new assymetrical neck profile, is it better than '60? Reading the features, I think that standard 2008 is better, but I've never played these guitars so maybe in reality it isn't as good as it seems to be.

Great question. If you're not in a rush, you might as well wait till winter NAMM (Jan 16th, I think) to see what new guitars will be coming out. That's my plan. I've been playing an SG with the 60s style neck for about 10 years, but really liked the new Asymmetric neck on the new LPs. The features on the 2008 standard made me like it more than the traditional. In any case, I'm curious to check out the new DFs and see what coming out in 2009 before I spend a dollar.

The problem is that better is all relative. Some people love the 60s necks. Other hate it. Some love the sound of a Standard. Others hate it.

They are all great guitars. You can't go wrong. If you can't play them before buying, I would think the Traditional is your safest bet--old school tone, weight, neck size, etc.

The Dark Fire would be a gamble, since it is so new and nobody really knows much about it.

And I wouldn't worry about the neck shape and size. Your hands will get used to whichever neck you select.

If I could go back I would still buy a LP Standard, but I might have gone with a 50's neck instead of the 60's. Perhaps I am wrong about this, but the bigger your hands the better off you are with a fatter neck. I've never thought of my self as a "big guy", but when I see pics of my self with my Standard it's a bit freaky. I am 6'5" tall and go about 250lbs. (1.94 meters tall, 113.398 KG) Any way I suggest you try them all out and find one that is comfortable for you.

Surely it must be the best decision to try 'em all out, but the problem is that there are no official Gibson dealers in my country (I live in Russia). I know a number of music stores where I can order the Gibson guitar, but I can't try it out before buying it.

If you have to order a guitar online, I'd recommend either a Standard or Tradtional- but get a Custom if you can afford one. If a CS guitar isn't in your price range, than a traditional or standard should tailor to your needs just fine.
