NGD - 50th Anniversary Sorrento

Nad

Here's my new baby. A Royal Olive 1962 Sorrento reissue. I've had this guitar for a week and am really liking it. The Gibson mini humbuckers sound sensational. The guitar plays beautifully and the neck feels very nice in the hand.

great grab !

Lovely guitar Nad...

& welcome from another Aussie [thumbup]

Thanks guys.

I'm liking the Sorrento so much I'm thinking about getting 1962 reissue Sheraton in cherry. My wife has even given "approval in principle" to buy one as they are a limited edition [smile].

Since buying the Sorrento I've been playing it through a Fender Mustang III amp and It sounds wonderful.

Today I plugged it into my 5E8A Tweed Twin clone - WOW!! The sound is amazing. Those mini humbuckers really sing. With the tone rolled off the neck pickup, a touch of drive from a Joyo Sweet Baby and a little reverb I dialed in a lush fat Jazz tone [biggrin]. With more drive it produced great rock tones with easily controllable feedback.

I'm currently trying to decide between a Cherry 62 Sheraton or a IBJL Casino. I'm begining to lean towards the Casino - The Gibson P90s are attractive. Oh decisions, decisions!

Very cool HNGD fella!! [thumbup]

Thanks - Lovin' it. I keep playing paperback Writer. it really nails that mid 60s Beatles sound.

Here's some pics of the case and cetificate of authenticity (the salesman was amused that an Epiphone came with a Certficate of Authenticity!)

That case looks...functional, like a case. lol. A certificate of authenticity too... cool [thumbup]

lol.

No cord. The only Epi I've bought that came with a cord was my LP junior.

No offense, Nad --- I'm glad you're enjoying your new guitar, and I'm not writing this to rain on your parade in the slightest.

I just cannot understand why Epiphone couldn't get the shape of this guitar right. Notice how the outer curve of the cutaway and the upper bass bout are not symmetrical? Completely ruins the appearance of it in my eyes. They did the same thing on the ES-175 reissue --- what was a graceful and symmetrically curvy guitar became a misshapen travesty of a classic design.

Peerless seemed to have no trouble getting it right when they built Sorrento reissues in the 90's and early oughts. Here's what a Sorrento or ES-175 is SUPPOSED to be shaped like:

beautiful. Sounds great (well, it does feedback, but in a good way) [biggrin] , looks great.. [thumbup]

Thanks Epiphone

I know I should remove the foam insert beneath the bridge, as well as the pickup cover "protector" film. I think I'll just leave it for now. [laugh]

also, no cord. [sad]

Hey Epiphone, can you send me a cord ? They are supposed to be included, right ?

This guitar sounds super good, really "clear" (not muddy). Great with effects.

My old guitar buddy "Paulie" is playing it as I type this, man does it sound good.
