Fuller's Reissue Guitars Question

Hi

Anyone know where/how I could purchase any of these guitars?

I just got a 2013 J35 and am digging the Gibson tone. And the J35 Reissue and 42 Souther Jumbo Reissue is making me GAS a little bit. =)

Maybe one of you have one you'd like to sell me?

Thanks

Thanks ThemisSal.

I just got a reply saying they'll do another production run in November. However, the specs for the reissue is a 1.77 nut which is quite large. I do play a 1.75 nut on an Eastman E10d and it is comfortable. Do you think the 1.77 nut will make a noticeable difference?

Also I am looking for that dry woody, warm, tone in the youtube video. I would say you find in the J35 reissue and the 42 Southern Jumbo reissue (not so much in the rosewood editions).

My question for you Gibson savants is where would I find that same kind of tone in some of the more widely available Gibson acoustics?

I just bought a 2013 J35 so I do get SOME of that tone there. =)

Let us know what Fullers has to say. I played their J35 reissue and it is fantastic. Top of my list if they currently have them. My local 5-Star dealer said Gibson halted custom orders for a year.

Sal, when did you get your J50? I think I played it.

Beat me to it. Thanks. The large nut is pared with a shallow profile so it is doable. I like the wider string spacing for picking.

I just got further clarification on the profile and they say it is ''chunky'' inbetween a standard and legend style. I am assuming that means inbetween a J45 standard profile and a chunky profile like the 2013 J35?

I actually love the ''chunky'' 1.72 inch nut on the 2013 J35 it is so comfortable.

I really like the 2013 J35 neck, and have been told that the Legend has a huge baseball bat for a neck. If it is like the L-00 Legend, it is very very large and nothing like the 2013 J35.

I have one of the Fuller's 1942 SJ re-issues. It has the Luthier's Choice neck with the wider nut and slightly wider pin spacing at the bridge. I believe this is pretty similar to what is on the JB.

The neck has a shallower profile than the modified-V neck on many Gibson re-issues, but can still be a handful if you have small hands and fret the 6th string with your thumb in the old-fashioned way.

It is, however, a gorgeous guitar. This is mine before I moved the pickguard to the "proper" position.

Thanks guys, I am off to do some more research. Looks like the Fuller's reissue with the chunky 1.77 nut might be too big for me. I find although I like the 2013 J35 1.72 Nut, it is just enough for my hand to handle--so to speak. If the 1.77 nut is chunkier it is would be very difficult for me.

I guess I am off to look for a J45TV or a SJTV.

What's the difference? lol..... Based on a couple of youtube reviews, I'd say my ears prefers the Southern Jumbo for sure. I think it is drier and ''sweeter''.

Split parallelogram inlays on the SJTV, sitka top on the SJTV (J45tv is adi), tuners are tulips on SJTV, batwing pickguard on the SJTV, few other cosmetic differences. Right out of the gate the J45TV will sound "drier" and have more treble (be brighter). So if you like the new J35 you will love the J45TV.

I played the SJTV and J45TV (latest 2013 version - gloss no pickguard and a sunburst NECK) for a long time last week. I picked the SJTV - a tad more mellow which suits me.

Both are simply spectacular guitars.

Thanks Sal. Hey do you think I should return the J35 and look for a used J45TV? I have 30 days to return the J35. I do like the sound and tone of the J35... I guess my question is: will I need (tone-wise) both a J35 and J45TV? or do they complement each other in some way?

Nice guitar, Nick!

Can I ask if you rang them at Fuller's to get your beauty above? Or dropped in the shop on your travels?

Their website is full of uselessness!

How can we see details of these Fuller reissues?

I have looked a number of times in the past and just go in a loop to nowhere on their site.

I don't think the J35 and the J45TV complement each other. I think one is a little better than the other (for my ears!), but they are in the same genre. FYI a new J45TV is easily $1,000 more than the J35. A used one goes for $2,000 it you are lucky. They just raised the pirces on the 2013 new ones.

Maybe you should enjoy your guitar and kill the gas. It is the best advice.

Jim Owen gives me the same advice. I don't always listen to him.... But I figure I'd channel his spirit and tell you what he always tells me.

The J35s are great guitars.

Satisfy the GAS and get a Fishman Loudbox mini?

Sincerely your sick in the head similarly afflicted Gibson Brother.

lol thanks... yes you are right, maybe I should just enjoy the new guitar and plug her in! funny thing is that I just traded one of my Eastman E20D for a Fender Acoustasonic 30 amp and a yamaha 6 motif synth. not sure if that was a good trade but ''sick in the head'' is probably somewhat accurate.

Last year I bought 5 Eastman's in a span of 4 months, then when I bought my Eastman E10D I stopped GASin' for over a year. Then last Friday, I walked into the local music shop and was noodling in the guitar room and I picked up that J35--the tone just blew me away and I went back there on Sunday and bought it and have been Gassin' for another vintage Gibson sound when I saw that Fuller's reissue youtube video. That's the sound!

Since we both like that sound maybe you go gassing and then I can pick up your used? lol

BK,

I bought mine used on ebay, from a dealer in LA. It's a 2007. I did email Fuller's to ask about construction details, and they were very helpful, Even though they didn't make a penny off me.

Fuller's seems to favor the Luthier's Choice neck on a lot of their re-issues. If I had my druthers, I would prefer the guitar with a late 1940's-early 1950's neck profile. That is a more rounded C-section, but with slight narrower nut and standard pin spacing at the bridge compared to the Luthier's Choice. Having said that, I adapt pretty readily to the LC neck,

Hey, sangeth,

First off, congratulations on the J-35. Sounds like you love it. Second, I would echo ThemisSal's advice. You just bought a guitar that you seem to really enjoy. Just focus on that guitar for a while and really appreciate it. The J-35s are great guitars and you should spend some time getting to know it and appreciating its sound. I do think the J-35 and the J-45 compliment each other and are not exactly the same, but then I have only played one J-35 so my expeirence with them is extremely limited. There is plenty of time down the road to buy a J-45 or Southern Jumbo after you have spent the time appreciating the J-35. No need to hurry. Trust me, I understand the pangs of GAS. I have been there, and continue to get caught up in it from time to time. But I have found that the best thing to do is be patient and appreciate what you have. There is always the next guitar. It just doesn't have to be next week!
