James S Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 How do I set up "Instantly Activated last tuning?" How do I set the Dark Fire for the most accurate tuning? As an owner of the original Robot, I found these two things indispensable for recording sessions.
James S Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 I really think Gibson/ Tronical should consider having "Instantly Activated last tuning" come stock on the Dark Fire/ Robot guitars. It becomes tedious reselecting your tuning preference every time the tuning slips a little. Also, with the speed of the new tuning system, I think the most accurate tuning should come stock. If for some reason it's not fast enough for you, then you can have the choice to trade accuracy for speed. I still haven't figured out how to set either of these on the Dark Fire, so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
elantric Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 My research indicates this is an old Robot feature which is now missing on Dark Fire (?)
James S Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 Which feature are you referring, last tuning or accuracy? I really hope it's the accuracy setting. At least they can claim it's more accurate in it's version 2 form. If Instantly activated last tuning is missing, I''ll be pretty frustrated. That would make it practically useless for studio sessions. For a guitar that is marketed for easy access to non standard tunings, it makes no sense for it to always return you to standard tuning. The thought of having to select a preset every time you wanted to touch up the tuning makes the good old fashioned way not seem so bad. I do appreciate your reply. You seem to be one of the only people here besides Tronical that has any sort of knowledge about the Dark Fire. Gibson really should put you on their staff. Merry Christmas!
elantric Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 I may be wrong about the missing "Instantly Activated last tuning" - its probably in there, just not documented yet. Recall many of us got "stuck" in DADGAD - due to pilot error. Its rather like cracking a safe lock - since without a manual its easy to fall off the cliff into incomprehensible territory. But the MCK makes a groovy Color Organ, and lights up like a Christmas Tree.
James S Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 Tell me about it! Luckily, I read one of your posts about the DADGAD snafu. Needless to say, I haven't been brave enough to try out DADGAD yet. If I can't, at least, get the Dark Fire up to first generation Robot functionality, it's going to get returned.
elantric Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 After 4 hours playing with the MCK - Only to get deeper into discovering new minefields . . . My only recourse was disconnecting the battery for an hour - to reset things. But my Dark Fire journey is not over - I cant wait to see how this all ends - but for the time being , to remain in the same metaphor as Gibson's "1st look at Dark Fire" teaser videos - - At this part of the Dark Fire journey, I'm feeling the same angst as that ape in that old Stanley Kubrick Film: 2001 Space Odyssey I identify with his frustration - but I realize in this life , this is the path of discovery of a new essential Tools. Cant wait until HAL(RIP) shows up!! stay tuned! Gibson - Please release the Dark Fire Manual ASAP And following the teachings of the Dalai Lama - I'm projecting unified positive energy to the Dark Fire development team
James S Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 A draft of the Dark Fire manual would definitely help.
James S Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 Good old fashioned bump. I still don't have a definitive answer, and I need to know.
simont Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Tell me about it! Luckily' date=' I read one of your posts about the DADGAD snafu.Needless to say, I haven't been brave enough to try out DADGAD yet. James S Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 Ha! I'm aware that it was probably "pilot error." I really haven't had a need for DADGAD right now. Apparently, dry sarcasm doesn't translate well on the inter-web. I probably should have used one of these.
