New Guitar Day..NGD!!!!

Hey folks,

well its been a fantastic summer here in Ireland and the UK. Thats a reason why I havent been around here much at all.... too bust travelling around and enjoying myself... ( a bit too much if I'm honest :) )

Anyway I managed to finally get a new guitar as I mentioned I was in the market for. I got her in the UK... tried a few Martins.. one a 10 yr old something or other...haha...was REALLY very nice..but a bit out of my budget

also when i A/B 'd her with what I finally got... my new guitar suited my voice much much..much more...even the sales guy mentioned it....so a good learning experience there.

Anyway..its a J35...it was the first guitar I tried.... treid a good few others.. left her and said I would return...

Travelled 80 odd miles round trip next day to see wht GuitarGuitar ( a major UK chain ) had. It was the Newcastle store...if the other stores are like this..i will never even visit them !!!!!!

Main acoustic sales guy...who apparently had been working in guitar shops for 15 odd years..... did not have a clue what he was talking about... would not let me pick a guitar up with out him handing it to me..and was generally ffffing useless.. the had a J35...but the one i tried in the first store I visited was better.

So long story short... ish ;) I got back to my town and bought my new baby.

I am very very happy.... no use trying to explain in words.. but she is everything I wanted..... I have never had a guitar as well suited to me as this in my hands before. Lovely to finger pick.... Feels almost as wide as my Seagul some how...I dont know how they have done it..but everyone who stated the nut / string spacing feels wider than it is are correct.

She sounds a lil tight of course..seeing as shes 6 months old odd.. but I love her sound already.... I prefer her much more than the HB !

I also much say...she is absolutely flawless... the workman ship is absolutely top class. The owner of the shop Steve James Guitars... whom I highly recommend.... said he had 4 j35's deliverd a few weeks before..he took 1...a friend took another..he sold the 3rd to a pro..and I was lucky enough to get the last.. ( a few days ltr he was trying to order more and seemed he couldn't at the moment..the must bge selling like hot cakes )

He told me..the 4 were basically all very similar.. build and finish wise..he said you could not tell really any difference between them... i think this goes to show Gibson have really nailed something with thie way the are now making guitars... of course every guitar will have its own soul.. but ..you know what I'm getting at I hope.

So heres some pics... Man I am one happy Gibson owner...by the way..i have had her a few weeks now...

Well, well, well, ye'll be still alive then Delboy. Nice one, had wondered where you've been.

First off, nice one on the J-35, they are quite nice eh? Been sorely tempted myself, but too much crossover between the 45/50 really..... so Congratulations.

secondly, that's a shame about guitarguitar, the one in glasgow is quite different, the acoustic blokes tend to know their stuff, you can pick-up as you like apart from the higher high end stuff, braz models etc... where they'll approach and give you it, but give you enough space etc... of the many guitar stores I've been in down the years, it's one of my preferred ones really.

Well done buddy, and welcome back, we've missed ye here, BBG in particular..

I think given your style the J-35 is THE ticket, I always felt that a Gibson slope is best suited to your style Del.

This one looks great, just love the back, what a great grain.

Very happy for ya, and will keep on harrassing you until we hear a soundclip mate.

Great score ! [thumbup]

Probably just guitar stores attract a few 'certain types' so the odd one sneaks past the radar, but always found Glasgow to be OK. One or two staff I'm less fond of than others I suppose, but always easy enough to find a staff member who'll help and isn't all over you like a rash.

Here's another [thumbup] for GuitarGuitar...midlands branch...

Plenty of uninterrupted trial time in a private booth...great selection of quality guitars...sensible p/x offers...

As with most serious purchases, it makes sense to research thoroughly before entering any shop

And to be fair, shop acoustic ambience doesn't always do justice to a fine quality instrument

Personal quiver contains a Taylor, a Takamine, a Guild and 2 Ovations...no Gibsons as yet

Enjoy your J35... [thumbup]

Sweeeeet J-35, enjoy!

GuitarGuitar Edinburgh is my favourite UK acoustic store. Really nice/helpful staff (especially the boss Chris) & always have an excellent selection of higher end lefties. I've bought 4 guitars from them over the years & also sold a couple with no fuss & at fair prices.

I'll stick up for guitarguitar glasgow. Just got an amazing 2012 spec d18 a week or so ago. All of my guitars hail from this store and i'm now on first name terms with several of them. A new exclusive acoustic store has just opened. If you are in the area a visit is recommended.

I played one of these the other day in a shop, and it was very nice. Loved the neck profile and general feel, and the voice was very good -- loud, with that big chunky Gibson lower midrange, but pretty sparkly on top. The need to do a burst.

Anybody have any idea how these are braced relative to J-45s, AJs, etc?
