BluesKing777
The city nearest to me, Melbourne Australia was just voted the 'world's most liveable city' for the 3rd time in a row. I don't know who votes or why, perhaps they vote for it themselves in some little chamber thingy somewhere...... I work at home (wonderful) but the suckers that catch transport to the city or worse, drive there!, well, good luck to that! (I did it all ways for many years). A few of the guitar shops have gone belly up recently and while there are a couple of good ones, I WOULDN'T call it the 'world's most liveable city for guitar players'. Which city would you pick if you could? Music shops, gigs, digs???? BluesKing777.

fortyearspickn
And I'd agree with Austin. Opportunities for acoustic guitarists abound. And infra-structure is there if you have the talent to move up a few notches.

Versatile
There are many aspects to deciding which is the most liveable city in this day and age... Job prospects...open spaces...racial diversity...aesthetics...history...culture...music... And yes...you guessed correctly... Birmingham England... So many iconic artists/musicians hail from Birmingham it is almost untrue... From the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra through most genres of music... And the choice of world cuisines is something else... V

Del Nilppeznaf
The city nearest to me, Melbourne Australia was just voted the 'world's most liveable city' for the 3rd time in a row. BluesKing777. did you know BK..Melbourne has been voted in the top 1 or 2 for over ten years..its either there or Vancouver. I lived in Melbourne for 3 years in the early 2000's.. was being voted first or second back then also. For ease of living I would agree..transport..infrastructure.. eateries.. work.. I have lived in a few places around the world and Melbourne is just so easy..( much better than Sydney ) As for best for guitar payers? Well if ya a gigging player the easiest place I have lived and worked is Goa India.. wake up in the morning/afternoon.. head to ya local restaurant for coffee and breakfast while watching the sea and beach life. spend a relaxing day doing nothing much in the sun..and when its time for ya gig..either take a stroll along the beach as the sun sets to your venue..or hire a driver for the night at a cost of a few dollars. Good pay too.!!! Byron Bay is pretty ffcki good for that kind of life style too :)

Hogeye
I know that most of you wouldn't consider Bozeman a city but by Montana standards it is. Here are just a few of the events for musicians. Music on Main. Every Thursday evening during the summer Bozeman closes Main street and they have a band play for all to enjoy for free. They try to hire local and regional bands. Lots of good dancing and great food. Several very good bars that continue the entertainment after the event. The girls get all dressed up and they are lookin' good. Everyone shows up to dance. Anything from the 85 year old dancing geeks to the Twerks. Sweetpea Festival. Just a funky small town festival that goes for a week-end. Many forms of entertainment from belly dancers to Shakespear In The Park. Guitar players all over the park. They have 4 or 5 stages going day and night. S.L.A.M. Support Local Artists and Musicians. Free for everyone. Lots of great food local bands and artists. In the park by the creek. Just follow your ears and your nose. You'll find it. Concerts in the park almost every week-end in the summer. Home of Music Villa, Gibson/Montana. Luthiers Kevin Kopp, Dan Roberts, Marcus Engstrom, Home of Waverly tuners and Dimarzio. Home of Montana State University and it's wonderful music program. The High School music program is one of the best in the Pacific Northwest. They have free music concerts during the school year. Big Sky is just down the road. It's the biggest ski are in the U.S. They support local musicians in many of their bars and they promote concerts almost every week-end all summer long. Don't forget "Homecoming". It's,of course, a local sponsored event put on by Music Villa and organized by Guitarstrumer and other Forum members. If you can't see three or four concerts a week-end during the Summer you are not trying very hard. Winter? We just move everything inside. You can walk any street in Bozeman and never fear for your life. We have no gangs. There is no poor, dangerous side of town. You can Busk any time day or night and never be in fear. There are many bars and coffee shops where you can get a job playing music. Yes they do pay musicians to play in Bozeman. You better be good as the quality of the musicians is remarkable. Bozeman is bicycle friendly and you can just ride "downtown" and find music on any street corner. Bring your guitar, and join in the fun. We hunt, fish, hike, backpack, ski, kayak, white water raft, tube, bike, motorcycle,or just sit around the camp fire and sing. Hope to see ya soon.
