Why Acoustic Guitar?

J.R.M.30!

Acoustic guitars are not boring! To me you need both to appreciate their differences. When I play my electric I usually go back to the acoustic almost like tracing back to the holy grail of guitar. Acoustic represents stripped down to the bare bones marriage of wood, string, flesh, as in a finger and dare I say plastic, as in a pick! If you think acoustics are boring than you'll think electrics are boring after a while! Wait and see! [thumbup]

Acoustic guitar sounds are great. Since my preference is steel string, I decided to go with piezo equipped solidbodies. I missed the tone of the pure wire, and in a rock'n'roll band it's hard to keep up with drums, bass and another guitar when playing hollowbodies. No problem with piezo-acoustified solidbodies and natural sounding amps - from "wired" to "unplugged" just by stepping onto a footswitch, that's what I like.

My first love was the acoustic, and that's what got me into playing. Gravitated to electric to play in the band, but for the "down & dirty it's just guitar kind of sound", nothing does it like an acoustic. That said, there's a lot you can do on an electric that just doesn't happen on an acoustic quite as well, so that's why we all have GAS LOL!!!

Who said acoustics were boring???

Prolly some candy a$$ who can't play anything with strings fatter than 8 or 9! [flapper] Also probably said by someone who can't sing, because a singer can always get his or her point across with an acoustic. I love my acoustics just as much as I love cracking plaster with a Marshall and a Les Paul.

If anyone thinks that acoustic guitar is boring, sit them down and have them listen to Andres Segovia,Pepé Romero,Julian Bream,Alerio Diaz or Elliot Fisk's incredible transcriptions of all 24 of Paganini's Caprices. If classical isn't up their alley some of Roy Clark's or Glen Campbell's flatpicking or the fingerpicking of Bert Jansch or Howard Werth would definitely change their minds if they are either bit appreciative of virtuosity.Even the enthusiastic and deft strumming of Pete Townshend on songs like Pinball Wizard,Magic Bus,Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand and several others or Donovan Leitch,Lennon,McCartney and Harrison. All of these guitarists are great acoustic players too.Acoustic guitars aren't boring-just some people who play them don't have the passion and ability to play them well enough to capture and hold people's attention.

The odd and oddly wonderful thing about guitar is that, acoustic or electric, each guitar is a dozen or more instruments.

It's the player that consciously or unconsciously makes the determination of what that instrument might be.

Got your pm P. Thx. Yeah, Joscho is just another in a long line of "who?" guitarists until you actually hear them play and then you go "WOW". Glad you enjoyed.

acoustics.....boring.....are you kidding?

acoustic guitar is a completely different animal from electric...it's the "vintage sound", the "pure sound".

and "entry level" acoustics are great for "finger strengthening" and hand training.

let's be honest...how many of us here trained our hands as youngsters on "less than stellar" acoustics?

I know I did!
