Rabs Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Heres a track from his new album coming on 14th October.. Quite Beatles like... what do you reckon?
Rabs Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 More granny music from the king of granny music. Nothing can be worse than the Frog Song :P :) (its like pop Bavarian ohmm pahh music lol :)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpevZ0-wUYQ
Dennis G Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 More granny music from the king of granny music. I'd have to agree. I know that hindsight is 20/20, but in looking back at the Beatles library of tunes, it's pretty easy to distinguish between the Lennon and/or McCartney tunes. I seem to remember Lennon saying something to the effect of (paraphrasing) "If I put out a real rocker, Paul will put one out there for the Grannies" and Macca himself has been quoted as saying he never wanted to write "rock 'n roll", but rather "show tunes". Show tunes????
EVOL! Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I got about 1:10 into the song and had to turn it off. That's even worse than Maxwell's Hammer.
moparguy Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I got about 1:10 into the song and had to turn it off. That's even worse than Maxwell's Hammer. You made it a minute longer than I did
quapman Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I think I'm gonna pass,, my favorite Beatle checked out in 1980. That said,,,, Blackbird is masterpiece. Paul did have his moments.
darling67 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 More granny music from the king of granny music. LOL! Please keep in mind that the man is like what… 70? When you're Paul McCartney, and have been making great music for most of your life, you don't need approval from anyone. You can either take it or leave it… but the fact remains, he is—and will always be—more relevant, musically, than any of us are, or ever will be. As for the song itself? It's Paul. It's what he does.
charlie brown Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It's pretty typical "McCartney" ;) ...but, I'll wait to hear the entire album. A lot of Beatles songs (yes, even individual "Beatles") have a tendency to grow on you, or they always did, on me, anyway. The Beatles strength, was their diversity, indiviually, and as a band. And, as well as they did, on their own, they didn't really come close, to what they achieved, together! Even in the later years, when they all wrote, individually, and then pieced it together, there was still that "magic," in that collaboration, that made it great! As to him wanting to write "big band" or "show tunes?!" Why not! I'm sure he'd be great at it! IMHO, as always. CB
cookieman15061 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Yeah big fan here but that dittie he writes in his sleep. I'll wait for the whole cd also. Some of his best stuff in the last ten years are not the singles. Dark stuff on "Chaos And Creation In The Backyard", which I thought was excellent and his latest "Fireman" cd has caught my interest. Never heard the quote about show tunes.(although I know he loves buying up the copywrites to them} I remember him and Linda always defending his ability to right as good a rocker as John. PS I see he's put Hi Hi Hi back into the set after all these years. Killer song live with some great slide.
cjsinla Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Pleasant enough song. I grew up with the Beatles, though. I have always liked Paul's bass work. IMO, the Beatles were great because of the interplay and arrangements that they came up with and the influence of George Martin as a producer. Very little of the Beatles' solo work has done it for me. But, then I heard the two tracks on Anthology that started as basic recordings that Lennon made at his house. Once you hear the extra harmonies, etc that the others added to them you could tell that the Beatle's magic was in the group. BTW, I can't imagine writing as many songs as Macca and still having something topics to sing about.
Valeriy Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Paul always had the experimenter even in vocal. I've heard that before singing Oh Darling he for the whole week was coming at the studio earlier and was warming up to appear characteristic wheeze. Another rumor, that he glutted himself with ice cream up to a wheeze , don’t know where is the truth . But according to history, I read, Oh Darling was ready (a first version) even to the White Album. But this version seemed to Paul too soft and he excluded it from this album and postponed to complete later, in fact, for the whole year later. Perhaps thoughts to glut himself with ice cream appeared not at once

The showtunes thing is from the unauthorized bio "Fab", a quite unflattering look at the "real" Paul, if you will. It's a pretty enlightening look into his world, and he's described by one person as being a "charming user". Ouch!

I tend to take these descriptions, especially "unauthorized," with a large dose! We're all Sinners and/or Saints, to someone. CB
Dennis G Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I tend to take these descriptions, especially "unauthorized," with a large dose! We're all Sinners and/or Saints, to someone. CB Agree. The guy who wrote the book also did one on Dylan, and someone else equally famous as I recall, and he's not particularly a kind guy, but supposedly does really do his homework, so to speak. One instance in the book that stood out to me was when Macca hired a recording engineer to give him some help on things he was working on, inviting his suggestions. After a few sessions and said "suggestions", Macca turned to the engineer and said basically "How many f'ing #1 records have YOU had?". As I said, "Ouch". Disclaimer here - Sir Paul is NOT my favorite Beatle lol

Disclaimer here - Sir Paul is NOT my favorite Beatle lol Yeah, I think Paul actually owned up to that "confrontation," in a video interview, or maybe it was something I read. The "suggestions," apparently turned more toward "mandates," that Macca had a problem with, as they didn't coinside with his feeling/idea(s) about the songs. As I understood it, at the time, it was more about a completely different direction, than about any "tweaks," or "helpful" suggestions. But, who knows? We weren't there. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, things (and even personalities) don't quite "gel!" There's no doubt, he has an ego! But, I think a lot of people, in his position, could/would be even worse! CB

Like him or not, I think he's done a bit better than most of us LOL!

rct Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 More granny music from the king of granny music. When I call him Mrs. Doubtfire I get yelled at. rct
cookieman15061 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 When I call him Mrs. Doubtfire I get yelled at. rct It's Mr. Doubtfire to you pal.
cookieman15061 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 It's funny when people criticize Beatles solo releases. I strongly believe that most have heard the hits and less have heard every song from every album. So when they say "oh I always liked George's stuff after the split better than Paul's" have you really listened past All Things Must Pass. Gone Troppo anyone? Much of their solo work was kickass and much of it was crapola but I bought every danged one because those guys were part of my musical DNA and I wouldn't have it any other way.
badbluesplayer Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 If you're Paul, you're always going to be Paul. You write those same ol' ragtimey ditties. I'd hate to be trapped in his brain listening to all that stuff bouncing around in there all the time He does a very narrow range of music. He was better as a Beatle. The best thing he ever did musically was the vocal harmonies with the Beatles. I loved the Beatles, but as far as the individual guys go, I loved the Beatles.
cookieman15061 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 He does a very narrow range of music. He was better as a Beatle. Actually I think his range of music is pretty wide. Imho.
duane v Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 IMO, not one of Paul's better efforts...... Just a bit too happy for me
