New model: what about 2013 J-35 ?

That's pretty interesting. First of all, the differences between those two pretty similar instruments come through clearly, even on a computer download (through good headphones), But what's even more interesting is the results. I noted times so I could switch back and forth rapidly between them. In the first example, they sound so much alike, if I didn't know which was which, I think I'd have trouble differentiating them. In the samples in the middle, the 2011 definitely sounds clearer and louder, and its sustain blooms beautifully. In the last example, had I not known the order of the guitars, I would have been convinced that the 2013 was the 2011 and vice versa. In that cut, it's the 2013 that has the greater clarity.

And all of that tells me that the only way to know is to have them in your hands. This much I know for sure; It may not be a "luthier's choice," whatever that means, but I have a 2003 Custom Shop OJ, and I played one of the new J-35s the other day. They're both really good guitars.

Nice video there PM,

they do sound very similar.. but as stated the 2011 Lutheriers choice does sound a tad warmer to my ears.. ( they have a mistake in one of the examples where it states its the 2013..when I believe its the 2011 )

We must also bear in mind that the 2011 is a 2 yr old and the 2013 is a new born.. excuse terminology..but u get my drift.

My HB TV changed its tone..especially its warmth quite significantly over 2 years.

One thing it shows me is these new J35's are built to the highest standard.

The difference between your REN J35 and these new standards is impossible for us to tell..as we haven't heard it. But Any guitar signed and worked on by Ren is going to have a premium price tag.

Main thing is ... your happy with it no ?

That's the thing, tone wise the new j-35 is no shrinking violet, quite a pronounced voice from clips I've seen already, a few years under the hood and they're going to bark like a Dobermann on speed.

Really fancy one myself, but do close to the 45/50 I can't really justify it. If I hadn't bought the 50 (which I love) I'd have already bought a 35 model.

Almost hoping they do a rosewood model, now that I can find an excuse to buy.... ;)

Thank you Del !

1,

2013 J-35 seems at the lowest price of all Gibson round shoulders.

But you say they are built to the highest standard, why ?

2,

I like my Ren's J-35, this is why I didn't return it.
